I have mixed feelings about that record. I love Revised Music for Guitar & Low-Budget Orchestra and REDUNZL, the other two songs not so much
I have mixed feelings about most of his stuff. Depends on the day I listen to it. That said, almost all of his satire I dislike, but the music sandwiched in between can be incredible.

My favorite Zappa albums are Waka jawaka and Grand Wazoo... ok, Hot Rats too... Studio Tan and others from that period come close. The linked Chanan's You Tube video is fantastic as it explains the continuity and background of it all.

Now I have to start learning those guitar chords for future use. And listen to Läther later today.

Gar-baj.

Trash.

Proof that Zappa is human.

All I know is, I was the young kid that went into the record store, the independent record store, the hard-core record store and asked for a recommendation for a Zappa record.

The guy grabbed “studio tan” and handed it to me.

The older me probably would’ve walked back in the next day and punched him but I was still a dumb kid, so I just thought there was something wrong with me.

Frank’s got a lot of records like that. We shouldn’t pretend he doesn’t.

It certainly wasn't AM pop music material. Look at it this way - the guy may have did you a favor. I rarely listen to it - mostly because it is so disjointed - and when you find a groove, ir doesn't last long. But that was intentional in this composition.

This can be contrasted with Grand Wazoo - another orchestral "concept" album. Still not pop music, but more of a sense of narrative flow and had some more accessible toe-tapping moments. Perhaps the liner notes helped. But I have had a smidge of orchestral experience (brass), and likely look at these compositions differently than many others.

I would like to hear a version of Joe's Garage with either a more mature narrative, or no lyrics at all. Some great music overshadowed by obnoxious, tasteless, immature lyrics. I do like the recurring "He was a very nice boy - he used to cut my grass.".🙂

LOL! If you don't like it, don't listen to it. I like pretty much al kinds of music...but truth be told if I'm going to listen to hippie hairball music, I'd rather listen to Zappa or Beefheart than the Grateful Dead.

Them's fighting words! But then, Dead fans are typically mellow and non-violent, so never mind...
