I guess I should also drill the holes for the pots and switch...
Even though I still have a ton of sanding to do... (have I ever mentioned how much I hate sanding?) ...I was dying to see what this body was going to look like when finished, so I applied a couple coats of shellac to pop the grain. Wow, I really love how this is looking.
You laid that out very nicely to highlight the figure and natural edge! Bravo!

My wood supplier calls this stuff "sinker [wood type]," like sinker redwood, sinker maple, etc. Some builders claim laying on the bottom of a lake or a river for years makes it sound better. Dunno about that, but it does seem to make it heavier even after drying.
I still have to shape the back of the neck. That plus the weight of some of this packaging should get this down to 8 pounds... which I can live with. Still rather heavy though.
