Thick strings kill the twang so anything heavier than a 46 on the low E is a no no for me.
9-42s twang more than 10-46s but for the ULTIMATE twang ,a totally balanced sound (all strings have the same volume) AND a non aggressive and "stick in your ear" G string the classic 010-038 almost everyone used in the late 60s& 70s is the absolute Holly grail of string sets.
    They also FEEL great .

I guess I need to try a 10-38 or 10-42 type set. Good idea.

The standard 9-42 does feel really weird getting used to if you have to do some strumming. Especially after playing an acoustic.

But for other stuff nothing beats skinny strings.

Nope. It's been 9s for me for a whole lotta years. Recently I've tried some custom sets to even out the tension disparities of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, but I still start with 9s.

I feel going back to 9-40, from 9.5-44 with my tele. I will put heavier strings on my second tele which has hotter pickups. Ill swap these

I used to mount Webstrings 11/50's on my Fender scale guitars, 12's on May gibson-scale semiacoustic, and 12's on my acoustics. Now, at 55, I dropped down respectively to 10, 11, and 11's, all D'Addario

Used to be 11s on all my guitars but nowadays I use 9s on 25in+ scale and 10s on gibson scale.

Definitely feels better and not much different sounding either.
