back in the day, before i had ever picked up any musical instrument, i really enjoyed watching GE Smith on SNL, didn't know what guitar he played, but he just had "that" sound. Here's a rig rundown with some very cool tele info.

He was always a memorable part of SNL in the 90’s. Really stuck with me too.

I've watched that rundown multiple times now. The gear's cool, but G.E. seems like such a humble, kind dude that can really spin a tale, and listening to him talk about the connections he has with all of his guitars is really nice. It's like the best NPR interview that never was.

Pretty cool. I remember when his signature Tele came out thinking it would be cool. Played one and wondered what the hype was about. Guess he answered that question here....

Oftentimes the little 30-second vignettes that Mr. Smith played were better than the musical guest on the show.

I often thought that SNL should have booked him as the musical guest instead—he could easily recruit some amazing singers and musicians to play along with him, and it would have blown away a lot of the “flavor of the month” pop tarts they sometimes scheduled.

There were times when Mr. Smith would have a Flying V in his hands on the SNL stage. Here is a good interview in which he mentions having owned 27 Blackguards....esquires, Broadcasters, Teles. The Flying V is mentioned on down the line.....

I love GE videos. He's such a good interview. Always has good stories, lots of knowledge, eager to talk, and very humble. Thanks for posting that one. I'd seen it a few times, but its always worth watching.

I wish I was cool enough to buy one of his signature teles when they came out.

I recently came across his videos. I really liked his Custom Tele so I had to build one similar.

interested in the pine body tele he talked about. I need to rewatch the whole video and will, but if I understood it correct, the neck also was from that old pine. any of you have pine body tele's, I'd say they are pretty light weight?

if you do have a light weight pine body, does the tele feel balanced in the hand(no headstock dive feeling)?
