Has anyone here ever replaced either of their Tele pu's with a DeArmond Gold Foil?
no to the question but i want a set of dearmond Gold tones just in case
Yes and they are brilliant (but perhaps unusual) in the neck position- I have two teles with 62 /63 era Rowes
It is a perfect neck pickup- should be easy to install. Just get an esquire pickguard and drill three holes- one for the two mounting screws, and one for the lead wire. They top mount so no additional routing is necessary. I have read that it is important that you use non-ferrous screws like brass to mount them due to how they are designed. Can’t tell you why however.
the bridge position would be a little trickier but not impossible.
Did I mention it’s a great neck pickup?
You can see two here on the left of the row - a silver foil and a gold foil both early Rowe industries (one is a '62 and one is a '63) mounted P90 style, both in custom built bakerite pick guards. Since the gold foil is on an all brass hardware set, i stripped off the chrome on the covers back to the original underlying brass. To my ears the sliverfoil sounds marginally better but both are utterly brilliant in the neck position.
I’d like to find a un routed Tele body to rout myself for this...
yay do it you'll love it
(sorry Im a fan of them -lol)
I had a DeArmond guitar....Korean made, Les Paul-ish that sounded wonderful......if it hadn't had such a skinny, wimpy neck I'll still have it today. The pickups (like what you show) were great.
