When all the new Epiphones were announced, I noticed that the cheapo Les Paul SL was no longer listed. "Hmm" sez I, "I wonder if those will be cleared out?" They are definitely bottom of the Epi barrel, but for the right price, it might be a giggle to have one to fart around with. No movement on the price, not that I expected it yet, until now. They were $170 CDN at most retailers (a couple had them higher), and I'd be willing to buy one if it were 40% off, but suddenly the price is $200!! That's only $50 less than much better cheapo guitars. Oh wait, if they stop making it, it becomes "collectible" right? Sheesh.

Price is according to demand. You increased the demand so up went the price.:) Amazing, is this the store trying to recover cost of inventory perhaps. What are they elsewhere?

So, you want 40% of $170.
Want a free pick with that?

I'm waiting for those super cheap Les Pauls as well. Let me know when they pop up. ;)

The only real strategy I've found that works for bottom feeding is patience.
    Rational market analysis?
    Strategic planning?
    Never got me anywhere...

Thinking about it I've been waiting for a $79 Dano for more than 20 years and still haven't found that screaming deal.

I haven't increased demand, because I haven't tried to buy one, and I wouldn't even when they were $150 for Boxing Day.

Nope. Free picks are never worth it. I'm just willing to pay a little over $100 for this instrument, and not willing to pay more.

Well, the SL is not really a Les Paul, no matter what they call it. I'm actually a bit disappointed in Epiphone for using the name on it.

Oh, you're right. That's not the Epiphone LP I was thinking of. Am wanting something like the PRO III to go on sale.

Really, if I'm waiting for a price that's too good to pass up, that generally means the guitar just isn't good enough to be worth paying a fair price for.

At this point, I'd be surprised if retailers didn't increase prices incrementally based on traffic. Say there's 200k more people just like you, checking these out right now and hoping for a deal. That's increased traffic, which could be interpreted as increased demand, or at least potential for it. I could see those metrics being used to drive prices up in hopes of catching people wanting to get them before they're all gone.
