Danelectro use a different switch type to everyone else. It puts your pickups in series, and it's louder than you'd think.
The neck pickup being louder than the bridge pickup is also a thing.
Not really a 'fix', but replacing the switch with a Gibson style toggle will get the level down a little.
Other switching options are available. I reduced mine to a Gibson style switch and Tele volume + tone replacing the stacked pot arrangement.
You can get four-way switches for serial & parallel options.

Series in the two pickups position was a gift from Nate Daniel many, many moons ago. I believe the first wave of Dano re-issues did not take advantage of this and wired the middle spot in parallel mode.

20 or so years ago, I almost pulled the trigger on a Fatdog Jizzblaster....Fatdog of Subway guitars bought out Danelectro parts when they went under. Don't know how it is now, but they had some real cool combos they put together out of those old Dano parts.

I'm still kicking myself over letting my old Danos/Teiscos/Airlines/Silvertones go.

Really jonzin these days for a Dano Coral Firefly and/or a Dano Convertible.....that's all I need!

My local just started carrying Danelectro and I just came home with a 59M NOS+ in red metalflake. Love the guitar.
I notice that when in the middle position, the volume is louder than either the neck or bridge pickup alone. Is that a known thing? Any fix for that?
The Dano with both pickups ON
( I have a Dano '97, '56 U2 RI)
are in Series and LOUD!

* just to make things a bit easier, controlling the (2) concentric Volume/Tone knobs ( with both pickups ON),
I keep my Tone controls cranked and then use either Volume knob to pan towards more Treble ( bridge pickup).or more Bass ( neck).

Dano is a wonderful guitar- clean or dirty

It's not a bug, it's a feature! The volume blast you get from the combo position is just the thing to get you up above the racket on a solo. I use my Pro mainly for slide, chug along in neck position then drop it into overdrive for fills & solos.

For what it's worth, the pickups in my Pro (Chinese-made IIRC) are some of the best lipsticks I've played. Fun guitar to play.

My Convertible would be the last guitar I’d let go of if push came to shove. Not sure it’s all I need, but it’s what I need most! Wouldn’t say no to one of those Fireflys, though.

You could rewire it to be in parallel, like a telecaster or maybe do something custom with a push pull that lets you switch between series and parallel. That Danelectro series wiring is "the sound" to me though. Very useful in a band setting.

I have a blue metal flakes 59 NOS+ and I love it mostly. Wish I could change the volume/tone controls so the volume is on top. Haven't looked yet or checked the pot impedance. Anybody look into this?
