I remember that event. I was working =)There's a local angle for you Cliff.
I used to live in the Montgomery Village neighborhood. You know where that is.
After Katrina there was a fund raising musical event put on in the Montgomery Village shopping center down the street from my house.
Dan Hicks played.
I chatted with him a bit afterwards and told him how his music was part of the soundtrack of my life.
He said that neighborhood was his old stomping ground. He was part of the first graduating class of Montgomery High School where my daughter graduated.

I heard those sort of stories, sad. Alcohol is bad. Ruined many careers, killed a few artists too.One of my favorite albums ever, and one of the most unique. Here's my story of almost seeing Dan and his Hot Licks in concert. In either '73 or '74, they came to my college, which was in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts. My friends and I were really excited about this concert, since we played this album a lot. We go to the concert. The band and the gals come out first, and they're singing and playing some jazzy vamp to get the crowd going. Then Dan Hicks comes out. He walks up to the microphone, looks around, and then says: "Worcester, Massachusetts? What the hell am I doing in Worcester Massachusetts?" He then falls down, completely, 100% stone-cold drunk. They carried him off, we all got our money back, and went home disappointed. But I still love the album.
