Are there any significant differences between the D'Addario XL and NYXL strings (besides cost)?

My G&L ASAT is due for a setup and I'm trying to decide if I should stick to my usual XL strings or give the NYXL ones a shot.

I like them better. I feel like they sound better and last longer. I think it’s worth the $10 experiment.

I tried a set of NYXLs after a buddy of mine kept raving about them.

I couldn’t tell much difference, if anything I liked them less than XLs.

I only tried them that once, though, and I’ve used XLs for close to 30 years. Maybe I should try them a second time to be fair.

I may be paranoid but I swear they downgraded the regular XL series when the NYXL’s came out

    At least the material(visually)appears different
The cores used to be steel/silvery now they are a bronze brass color (the XL’s)

My theory is they downgraded the regular XL’s and the NYXL’s are what the XL’s used to be

    Take that internet folklore!

I was a 'beta user' of NYXLs and got a free set to try out. They sounded great and seemed to last longer.

I change my strings based on playing time, so I didn't see a compelling reason to pay more for NYXLs instead of XLs.

I think you'll be fine with XLs, but if you're OK with the extra cost of NYXLs, go for it.

My NYXLs seem to last nearly twice as long. I don’t hear a sonic difference, except they retain that brightness which new strings have.

Echoing what others have already said, they definitely last longer than the XL's. I agree, they don't sound any different to me but they easily last twice as long as the regular XL's.

I like the NYXLs a lot, I agree that they last considerably longer.
I rarely use em', because of the expense.
Maybe I'll grab a few sets next week.
