I just noticed that any time I’m touching my pickguard while playing there is a static crackling noise. Does this sound like a shielding issue? Is the best way to fix this by shielding the back of the guard with copper tape?

I have the same problem with any plastic pickguard. For a permanent fix, I cover most of the back of the pickguard with copper tape, tape a stranded wire to the guitar body where it will make contact with the back of the pickguard, then solder the wire to the back of the volume pot. Dryer sheets and such either don't work at all for me, or don't last very long.

I rewired my CV50 Tele and I shielded the cavities making Faraday cages : no hum, no statics, no RF interferences anymore... ;)

A quick temporary fix is to wipe the PG with a dryer sheet
