Yes I think Vlad will be probably the pointy king. For those of you who don't know what he is talking about we called my last build, a 59' LesPaul warlock reverse, Vlad. image.png

I cut both the corners for the headstock binding. image.jpeg
This side is a hair short, but I think I can squish it together.
    image.jpeg
Then the fat binding will look like this image.jpeg
I king of like the black on the outside look too with just a small white pinstripe around the headstock but I really want the head and body to have an outline. I think you can see it better like that. It has that custom look to it still too. image.jpeg
From far away you can't see the difference anyway.

I glued the beginning pieces of the binding on tonight. I had to re shape the last corner with the heat gun really quick too, and it started to rain! image.jpeg image.jpeg

I put the thicker white binding on the headstock today. image.jpeg image.jpeg
I started shaping the body binding too, I'll try to glue it tonight. image.jpeg

I have to say the binding was reminding me of the sole and little stripe on a pair of Vans.

As much as I can. I'm not doing the medallion one. I was more referencing his other one (he has two), which was re-painted candy apple red:

That style is my favorite, much more than the 50's type for some reason. I have a 1990 black one that I bought from musicians friend new for $400. It is the best guitar I own and probably the least expensive.

I sanded the headstock binding flush today. image.jpeg image.jpeg
I've got a little gap here.

I got a little gap here too because I tipped the head forward a little when I routed.ill fill it with a piece of scrap. image.jpeg
This didn't get stuck down. image.jpeg
But I will be able to glue it down. image.jpeg
And last there is a little gap in the binding where the angle is off a little. I will add a piece of white scrap, glue and shape it. image.jpeg
I'm pretty happy with it, it's going to look pretty good.

Got some Gibson style 5 ply pickguard material in today, it has the thick white layer toward the bottom. image.jpeg
This used to mean cheap crud, now it means quality. image.jpeg

To prepare for the neck to be joined I will have to do some trimming of the neck tennon and the very forward part of the body under the fretboard. image.jpeg image.jpeg
The neck angle is built into the tennon and it makes the very end stick up some. I will take it down on the table belt sander then flatten it all the way with the orbital sander.
    image.jpeg
The front area under the fretboard I will hit with the hand held belt sander. It is a good width for the fretboard area, I will blend that too with the orbital sander. image.jpeg
I have to get the neck ready, then glue it and then I can route pickup cavities, then glue the fretboard, then shape the neck. That is the easiest order for me. I found routing the pickups with the board off make the template lower and has something flat and square to clamp to. I also found that gluing the board before shaping the neck and heel is easier too because it's square still too.

I have the face of the headstock pretty good so I redyed it. I have to robosand the outside lightly and scrape it but the binding will look good. image.jpeg
Again the stain is just to enhance the black lacquer it will get, this way it can be thinner and easier to scrape off of the inlays and binding.

I forgot to show the body binding. I think it's going to look ok. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg
I have one spot where the black kind of bled over, I'll scrape and sand it some more.
    image.jpeg
I still have to do the sides with the robosander too, I planned for them to be .010 oversize.

Thank you, I just wanted something a little different but with the same feel as a custom.

One thing I still need to make is a routing template for a p90. I traced around the cover that I have and put some straight edge guides for routing. I started using this method of square 1/2x1/2 stock and nails instead of double stick tape and whatever else. I didn't like the left over residue on the template. This works pretty well but the stock isn't completely square so I have to be careful. image.jpeg image.jpeg
