Gratuitous use of profanity identifies people as being white trash. For that, I suppose, it's useful.

Didn't take long for someone to jump on that faux pas.

I don't know anyone who speaks in the way you describe in your example. If I do, I don't notice it because that much of it would just fade into the background, I think?

    I don't have children.

    I don't go to McDonald's

I certainly wouldn't go to a Harry Potter movie under any circumstances

    I don't go to Church.

Of course I have standards, but they are mine and I don't inflict them on other people. If I wasn't OK with the conversation you used as an example, what am I supposed to do about it? It's not like someone walked up to my mother and said "Hey, F*** You!! ya old cow."

It's all in the delivery. Some people are very natural with it and it gives a bit of flavor to the conversation, think comedians, etc. I love it when girls curse.

Well, you're in #$% *&#@ New Jersey, what do you expect? It's not exactly known as the center of the universe for politeness.

Thats very true .It can just add a frisson of humor when needed but at other times its an ignorant rant by a moron . I supose when its a languid" Oh f**k orf pleb" its just funny, (especially if your not the pleb:lol:) but if its "f"ck off you british ****ehawk " delivered in Glaswegian accent ,its a whole different matter. Mercifully I have suffered neither ,though confusingly I was told by an Irishman in a London bar to f*ck off back to my own country .Ah the joys of Guinness.

I once read that profanity was linguistic crutch of the verbally inarticulate...

    Driving or Non-Driving?
    That is the question.

The one talking on her cell phone when the light is green with a line of traffic in back of Her and then finally moving as the light changes from yellow to red and She's the only one who gets through is a funky classic!!!!

    OK, here's a GREAT story.

So, I was in college and my friends were building a flamethrower. We went to Home Depot for parts and one buddy (buddy A) said, "God, why's this in here? IT ain't F'N threaded but its in the box that says F'N threaded...F***!" A little old lady walks up and says (sorta to all of us), "You kiss your mother with that mouth!" and Buddy B jumps in and says, "Lady, I kiss lots of peoples' mother with this mouth!"

    We all DIED!

Engendered racism and judgemental elitism might prove something akin to that?????? That is, if one was the judge, right?:lol:

By JOve???? Now, that is going back a ways, isn't it? Egads! Heavens to mergatroid???

The best thing to do these days in public situations would be to video the offending party and expose them to the world via the internet. There reallly isn't much private these days.

Mother's control??? LOL These days you are just as likely to get this from a mother if you point out a verbal indiscretion of that mother's offspring.
"Madam, your child's use of foul language is repulsive and shows signs of an anti-social behavioral problem."
Mom: "Why don't you stick your f*#*$$ng problems up your s-o-b'ing a$$."

Say, do ya'll thnk that there is too much profanity in this thread??
Or...is this a proper use of such language????
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge's sake, Ya'll!

Anyone ever play the COD games on-line? You'll hear some truly enlightening conversations while gaming. Non-stop f-bombs and racial / national slurs are par for the course.

I'm never really offended by people swearing as much as I think it makes you look unsophisticated and trashy; Like you need to expand your vocabulary to find better ways of emphasizing your point. And in certain public contexts (i.e., any one with a lot of strangers or children in earshot) it just makes you look like you are too self absorbed to be aware of your surroundings. Using certain language sparingly or in certain contexts can be great for emphasis or comic punctuation, but overused I personally find it tiresome. I used to work construction and the language was over the top, Sure it was quite funny for the first month but then it quickly became sort of sad. Like man, my ears aren't trashcans - you know?

I have been told that swearing is a sign of weakness.
