Just watched it again for the Nth time…

Also just found out the original dual was going going to be between Arlen Roth and Ry Cooder. (Their playing anyway)

They even recorded it to choreograph the scene:

But was later thought to be more commercially savvy to capitalize on the shred craze… to the chagrin of both Arlen and Ry who thought it would date the movie badly…

It might have been a much different movie…

…coulda, shoulda, woulda…

Maybe we can get the kids who are making fan-cuts of Star Wars to have a go at "CRothroads".

That Roth/Cooder duel is good stuff.

The studio approached Stevie Ray Vaughan to ask him to be involved in the project, perhaps playing the part that Steve Vai ended up playing. He turned them down because he was not comfortable with the idea of presenting music as a competition or a fight.

That jam between Cooder and Roth was fun.

Certainly didn't sound like a LUSTY and EVIL hellworthy battle with eternal DAMNATION as the losers fate. Sounded like happy hour at Jimmy Buffett's club with free margarita's for everyone once the two whiteguys were done "picking" happily in their hawaiian shirts.
Thankfully Steve Vai fixed it. And wrote the Classical part for the ending. (played it anyway)
