Stain on the back
And grain filler
Now working on the top,a little twist there I hope works
Like that back color, makes me happy...
Because I knew the ply on top would be thirsty I mixed a special pre filler filler.Waiting on the few days it'd take to set I started the neck radius
By now the top was ready .So a little dye and some top filler
Nothing major fellows just wanted a little black in the deep pores without affecting the color of the top
Lookin' good, crdave...
such an elegant shape isn't it....
I left all my electronics on the plate of this one and just a V pot so far.... I never seem to use tone knobs much, but there's room for another pot...
Wow Dave. I’m loving that colour. That body is looking good!
I did think about it lol,not a big tone guy either
Thanks, a cherry almost Heritage red? .It was getting a LITTLE too Fendery
Yes Trev it is
Well between a raging cold during an epidemic and the surgeon digging around in my foot wanting to do another surgery (#5 ) I've done very little
Besides some of the filler acting up,being sanded back and dyed again
In the first pic I'm showing the bad spots soaking in dye while the good parts shed it like water
So basically stranded in my wheelchair and the bed I pulled Little Squirt out for long overdue finishing. First seen in my thread "Dear diary, what a build its been" it is a mandolino,a very old rarely seen and even more rarely heard lute relative .As a child in Italy with my mother we went to the museum in Verona (a VERY beautiful city) and they had the entire shop of Antonio Stradivari on display. I was enthralled and smitten for life.A little known fact in general is he built a LOT more than violins. These little guys as well as guitars, years ahead of his time as usual. So without further memory trips here ya go
As you'll read FAR from a mandolin variant and as you'll see I didn't get the memo lol
But did find the article in time to compensate the bridge for fourths not fifths
I'm probably gonna have to remake the nut but did get little bit strung up
Pardon for the side trip but I thought some might want a peek
I can use that color at the back of my LP.
Give as the recipe Dave!
I hope you get the filler/finishing issue sorted. Nothing worse that something which affects part but not all of a surface.
First,thanks Nick old friend
Second, the recipe you won't believe . One light coat of clear shellac followed in equal amounts McCormick red food coloring and alcohol
Told ya you wouldn't believe it
Wow Dave. That Mandocelli thing is cool as!
