So today I was at a flea market that I like to go to and I found an interesting find.

It's a Jennings head and cab. Knowing Jennings was Vox I had heard of their stuff but had never seen one in person. I have a couple old AC-30s that I like and this was kind of kool looking so I figured I would buy it.

I wasn't sure if it would (1) work and (2) sound good. I kind of thought it would sound bad but look cool and probably didn't work. The guy wanted $150 and I got him down to $100.

When I got home I plugged it in with a 70s Fender Jazz, an old Apollo 335 looking bass, Fender Bass VI and Dano baritone. The all sounded really, really good. Very warm and a lot of solid power behind them. Not modern sounding but very vibey and sweet tonez.

I felt around the grill and thought it would be a 15. I finally opened it up and it's kind of interesting.

It's an old Celestion 18" speaker which is krazy. Anyways, it looks like it belonged to a do0de in Australia who also played in the UK. The cab is stenciled Diamond Express England and Australia on the back and he wrote his name and address inside.

Pretty cool score. You should try give that guy a call if you can track down a number and see what he has to say about it.

I had a look but the only M Holten I could find was in NSW. Maybe he moved?

Jennings I think set up shop after Vox was sold to Rose Morris. Pretty Vox flavoured offerings.

410 St Kilda Rd - up in the Domain near the Shrine of Remembrance.

Man, there must be an epic story behind that one. You don't ship something like that to the States at random.

Hmmmm. . . maybe he moved to Maryland?

On Google maps, looks like it's been redeveloped as a high-rise apartment block.

Yeah. That address is probably 30 years out of date.

I'd hate to think how much that cab would cost to ship packing that 18 inch speaker and its heavy magnet.

And now, imagine what it would've cost back when your main option was Australia Post.

A fellow might as well put wheels on it and drag it to Maryland in person.

He might have been working on a cargo ship and took it in his cabin and played guitar all the way across the Pacific for all we know....:D

Wow! Nathan Brown aka The White Hendrix lives in NSW and is probably one of the most famous guitar players on many forums. Maybe he could call M Holten for me.

One interesting thing is there is a long power cord coming out of the back panel. I'm guessing it was converted to USA power and this was added, as the Mains jack is unused. None of the others I can find online have this.

It's a 4ohm cab. I plugged my SLO into it along with my regular cab (a really old Marshall with old Greenbacks) and it sounded unbelievable but I didn't want to really turn it up.

Superficially, it resembles a Vox Westminster from the mid-late 60s.

Was that the Vox bass amp with an 18" speaker? That's what I was thinking, too.
