Neither did I.
A TDPRI version of one of my favorite songs, and I'm not playing on it ... ?
Call me the Breeze - Lynyrd
Hey Joe/Foxy Lady - Roy Buchanan
Jumpin at Shadows - Peter Green and later, Gazza Moore.
Stormy Monday, The Sky is Crying - Gazza. I like these tunes shredded. Gaz delivers.
Has our own Jackson Jackson's PF tribute download "Pink Forged" been mentioned?...
some mighty fine covers there,,,, thanks mate...
so many people I've played it for couldn't believe it wasn't PF doing them... when mid songs I mention it was a cover.... the looks I get...
Not sure how I missed that given it was on the 1st page! Ha!
How bout Jackie Shane covering Money then? If you only listen to one cross dressing Canadian soul singer it should be Jackie Shane.
Never heard this version.....WOW!
It's the best new thing i've heard in years - there's just something about that drippin with funk sound and Bonnie that go together. Don Was was the first producer to really bring it out in her, but when he did, it was a match made in heaven. It not only lays the basis for cool grooves and rhythm for the bluesy/funky side of her voice, but also her slide work just cuts through it so well. Bonnie is really at her best here.
Don't know if Dar William's version of Comfortably Numb is actually better, but it sure makes me appreciate the original even more.
I hope this works.
This Cat Power version of Dylan's "I believe in you" just slays me:
Anything Ray Charles covers.....
Dar Williams sounds good Scrapyardblue.
TNO-i haven't figured out Cat Powers yet...but her fans are extremely loyal. Very cool.
Getrguy1-i could listen to Ray Charles all day and night and all afternoon...Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music is the album that comes to mind regarding covers by Ray. Funny, Bobby Womack tried the same thing in 1976 with BW does CW...it bombed.
Knowing what an icon Ray was, who in their right mind would have the balls to cover Ray? Introducing Richard Manuel and the Band...
You picked a good one there, Scott!
Not many rock groups could get away with a classic like that ... I know probably just one more .....
Not saying these covers are better than the original - that's almost impossible - but they're still great versions of a great song!
The ultimate Aussie cover of Dear Prudence - Doug Parkinson:
Ok I give up I'll try to fix the link when its not the middle of the night and I'm not using the smart phone app.
Motley Crüe - Smokin In The Boys Room
I really like The Band's version of Long Black Veil.
Also love CCR's version of Grapevine.
I like The Holy Modal Rounders version of this Fugs classic:
John-thanks! i ain't heard that one in awhile.
jeggles-yours was blocked here in the good ole USA...curse you EMI...
Long Black Veil by the Band is great.
Wow Fezz, that's deep...
Lynrd Skynrd didn't write "Call me the Breeze"??? :!:
That just blew my mind.
