Oh yeah, I've seen Concrete Blonde do this one live, Johnette owns it for sure.

Act Naturally is a great Beatles cover song. I'm sorry it's just all-around BETTER than Buck's version.

It's been covered so many times, and I thought I was over hearing it, TBH.

BUT - Jeff Beck, Beth Hart and the band gave a worthwhile version here:

I know Imogen sings on both versions, but the original version of Blanket is one of my all-time favourite songs.

But, Immy and JB's version? Wow...

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but it's in the ball park. Bob Dylan once said (paraphrasing here) that Jerry Garcia played Dylan songs better than Bod Dylan. So ya, and I'd have to agree.

Back to your specific question, Wilson Picket's and Clarence Carter's rendering of "Hey Jude" is up there. Also, Carter's rendering of "Harper Valley PTA" scores big. Cecile McLorin Salvant's rendering of "If It's Magic" is as good if not better than Stevie Wonder's, IMHO. Esperanza Spalding's version of "What a Wonderful World" is pure beauty.

On the "Art of McCartney" albums there are a few I like.

My favorite Johnette quote - "You write one song about a vampire and everyone slags you off as goth"

Emmy Lou's got a few. Here's one with Spy Boy, Wrecking Ball, great song, great record, great band and I like it at least as much as Neil's original:

It’s Cold Outside is very close to The Choir’s version. Love that song.
