At the end of the night, I got a stage hand to take my phone and get a close up shot of Kenny's pedal board.

I recognize the 2 boss pedals... but what are the other ones? Kinda surprised he is using a Boss Tremolo since his amp has built in Vibrato...

Great show. Take care...

The pink pedal on the left is a Malekko chicklet spring reverb and the small one on the right is an Xotic SP compressor. Not sure what the two up top are though

I get that, because I have some amps with the best tremolo of all time and I still use a tremolo pedal (also the Boss one).

There are actually a few good reasons.

For starters, it’s an advantage in case you’re in a situation where you are using an amp without
Tremolo.

You also have one less footswitch to worry about. Personally I like to just have the pedalboard, rather than the pedalboard plus the amp tremolo footswitch.

Also, even some of the best tremolos affect the actual tone of the amp in a way you may not want. They tend to make the amp darker, add midrange or even make it break up a bit more.

The pedal basically adds tremolo to the tone you already have.

Also Marty had some sort of orange pedal on top of his amp, but I didn't think to ask for a closeup pic of it.

Marty used to play with Princeton... Despite of its seems that he used a Deluxe 68 / Silver face ?

The pink Chicklet is a pretty cool reverb.

Vibrato (tremolo) on fender amps also tends to drop the volume. Another reason a pedal is nice

Saw Marty Stuart last Aug. I talked to the tech after the show while he was tearing down. Kenny had more stuff on his board then what he has now. The tremolo hadn't been modded yet. Kenny has the most warm reverb sound I had ever heard. The tech said Kenny uses the amps' built in reverb and tremolo most of the time. The external reverbs/tremolo are there for the different settings for different songs so he doesn't need to tweak knobs during performances.

The tech also said much of the warmth comes from however the sound guy has the board setup and external compressors, etc. he is using for the house mix.

I've heard people say their house sound is stellar, so it'd be interesting to hear more about that. I'm sure their drum and bass sounds are just as carefully curated. To me, they sure are a model band.
