exactly what i was about to post. That is the spirit. Not necesserily by jerry reed.
So i guess that would make it 70's, 80's early country music, which i don't much about.

The first of these reminds me of the fake-English-language tour-de-force by the Italian Adriano Celanyano.

I m not pretty much in the newer stuffs in country and western, and i guess you won't hear the good music on mainstream radio. I think a lot of the newest country artists are too mellow, even among the more underground ones.
That seems fair, and related to your original question, there's not a lot of modern stuff I'm familiar with that's very dancey at its core. This song is terrible, but it at least recognizes that.

I'm very partial to the 'western' in C&W; the titular western swing, shuffles, two-steps, waltzes, stuff you can push-dance to. Four on the floor dancehall music is at least as much a part of the genre as fiddle music from the holler.

A lot of stuff produced and, or played by T-Bone Burnett comes to mind. Allison Krauss and Robert Plant doing Gone Gone Gone is one.

I don't mind mellow once in a while. Sometimes you rock, sometimes you roll, right? It's the synth, the emo/rap/punk/techno vibes, and the pointless chord changes that send me running. Oh - and most of all, the embarassingly insipid lyrics.

Oddly, I found a New Zealand TV detective show with great country music, including the background track's insidious swamp guitar. How did that happen? Dunno. But I plan to track down one or two playlists just to find out who I'm hearing.

After reviewing the responses, I am not sure what "funky" country is from one state to another or one country to another.

Would Johnny Paycheck tune "11 Months and 29 Days" qualify?

It feels more like a blues feeling to me.

It is hard to describe really, but i guess the proper explanation is the bounce feeling as stated before.
