Just came across this while Youtubin'...Walter Becker has a tone going on here that I really dig. It's not what I think of when I imagine Telecaster sound, but it's niiiiiice. I think that might be a Tom Anderson Tele...? I see a Bogner head on some 4 x 12 cab behind him.

That was a sweet clip, thanks for sharing. No idea about the tele tone, Walter's playing is very nice... I saw SD here in Houston a few years back, great show, those guys are amazing.

Becker may be playing a Sadowsky T-style (Long Island, NY Luthier). The video from the Letterman show is grainy so I cannot clearly see the headstock.

Becker is playing a Sadowsky S-Style on this live performance (Lollar pickup in neck I believe) with very similar tone to the Letterman performance. (26:44 of video)

Yeah, Sadowsky...those headstocks look similar. That Sadowsky Strat has a different character to its upper frequencies--I like it, but not as much as the sound on the Letterman clip--but who knows how much of that is the guitar or some of the other 3,700 variables between fingers and finished Youtube product. Thanks for the clip! Those guys can play a little bit.

Saw them when they came through town last year. Great show and a bucket list'er for me.

The Tele neck tone is much maligned, and I don't know why. I dig it, nice and mellow.

In both those clips, Donald Fagen has a Phase 90 on top of his keyboard.

How did I know they'd be playing Josie before the clip began?

Music like that is an extreme rarity these days.
    Thanks for the clip!
