Looks very close to EVH's original "Frankie" guitar.

not in a million years would i believe that to be the genuine article, unless Ed was selling it himself.

No kidding. Building Frankenstrats down to the smallest detail is now common place.

Anything is possible....but few things are proveable. I have an amplifier supposedly built by Seth Lover. I purchased it from one of his neighbors and saw pictures of Seth attending his BBQ parties and posing with a similar amp, but it doesn't prove anything. Since Seth is no longer alive, it will always just be a little story that I get to tell, but can't add a big price tag to it.

That really is a sad thing really. This guitar might actually be legit all the way and presented as a gift or something, but nobody will believe it. Probably lots of gear out there like that just sitting in attics.

And here I thought I was the only one with the idea to use screw eyes instead of strap locks... :(

I'd be curious to see the neck pocket and IMO its interesting that one isn't shown. To my eyes that doesn't look to be a Boogie Bodies neck, not that it has to be - tho
Ed and Lynn Ellsworth were pretty tight back in the day and Ellsworth was supplying Wayne Charvel with necks and bodies in the mid to late 70's. IIRC correctly, Lynn introduced Ed to Mr. Floyd Rose too.
It could be legit tho seems to me rather unlikely. Most instruments for sale like this generally show photos of the letter(s) of provenance as well.
Should it be legit, it would seem that Ed wasn't much a fan of the Wonderbar. ;)

Hey! Unlike a lot of other high priced offers on Reverb, at least shipping for this guitar is FREE! :)

Funny what fame does to the value of a guitar we would otherwise reject. Take a look at the string alignment on the bass side of the neck and over the pickups.

"Predicted to sell soon", so if you've got that sort of money, you'd better get a hurry on.

Even if it would be EVH's original Frankenstrat, this is just a ridiculous attempt to make some - well, a crazy lot of - bucks.
For me popmusic stands for the idea of getting people together and make music without years of studies and some certificate of mastership.
This item is the opposite of pop-music, it is as much fake as some custom shop aged-look-Les Paul.

As @Bones pointed out, Dinebag was buried with the original guitar.
Here is an excerpt from one of the many articles about It

In the days after the horror, Haney spoke with Paul about which guitar should be buried with Dime, who was to be lowered down in a Kiss Kasket, as per his wishes, donated by Kiss leaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley (who later did the same for Paul). At that point Van Halen called. “Dime [had been] ready to cut him a $30,000 check [the night they met] for one of his striped guitars,” Haney said, “but Eddie told him he’d do a special one for him. So I asked him if he’d stripe up a guitar for Darrell. He said, ‘One of the red, white and black ones?’ And I said, ‘No, Darrell always said that the yellow and black was your toughest guitar.’”

On the day of the funeral, Dec. 14, Van Halen arrived with an instrument – but it wasn’t a new one, it was the original one featured on the back of Van Halen II, dating from 1979. He told Haney, “An original should have an original.” But he couldn’t bring himself to view Dime’s body, explaining, “I can’t go in there… I want to remember him like he was that night I met him.” So Haney delivered the gift. Holding up the guitar, complete with rusted strings, Haney told her late lover, “See, baby? You didn’t get a replica – you got the one!” She kissed his forehead as she placed it in his casket.

And your "Letter Of Provenance" would make it worth exactly $400.

Exactly! It looks to me like something someone put together with old parts and it was never played. The wear patterns don't match. No wear on the paint at all... so how did the jack plate get so banged up? Eddy would never have played a guitar with the low E hanging off the edge like that.
