    Hi, again!

I'm not flush with cash so I am considering getting Logic 8 second hand and doing DAW work on a Mac using this version instead of 10 (the latest).

Any red flags to consider? Thank you for your advice!

What OS is your Mac running? Logic 8 might not be supported on any recent OS...

Good point! I'm running 10.14 and am planning an upgrade to 10.15. But I have PowerMac G4 desktops and laptops, which I bought to refurbish specifically so I can run older audio software.

Holy moly, you read my mind! I've pretty much just decided on it, I was reading their website during the last half hour :)

I'm not the only one of here using it, $60 gets you two full releases plus all updates along the way so a couple or three years worth

Good luck on those older machines if they are pre-Intel. I’d pay attention to dependencies around hardware, OS, and application version. If you’re not careful you might buy devices that make an unreliable combination leading to splashing out more cash.
There is a lot of good free/ affordable software out there and Reaper is one and GarageBand another.
    Good luck!

    Hi.

What are you planning to do? Do you need things like aux channels? You already get GarageBand for free, and you can do heaps with that. A lot of successful industry folk use it, so it’s not rubbish. It’ll sound the same, it just lacks some features. If you’re not laying down a lot of tracks, it may be all you need. If and when you upgrade to Logic Pro X, all your past work will integrate seamlessly. Also, GarageBand and Logic Pro X have the rather groovy and extremely useful ‘Drummer,’ which a lot of people use to great effect.

Also, are you or anyone in your household entitled to an education discount? Apple is not overly rigid on their requirements for this, unlike, say, Adobe. Mind you, last time I checked it didn’t really cost less, you just got more (Logic Pro X, Final Cut, and some other stuff all for the price of one). Still, worth exploring to see if you or anyone in the household qualifies.
