Moby Dick is one of my favorite novels. However, that whaling chapter is deservedly considered awful. It's notorious for a reason. Read it as a writer's guide on what not do when writing a novel. However, I think a whaling chapter would make a great parody chapter in a modern day absurdist novel.

The Angle has a fine point about Conrad’s audience. Folks interested in Leopold’s role in the Congo might read King Leopold’s Ghost, which details the atrocities committed under his reign. The photographs are disturbing.

    Hi.

I’m starting to think the TDPRI collective consciousness is watching me. Not long had a conversation with someone about my intent to reread Heart of Darkness and this thread turns up. And, just the other day I step out of the shower, having just washed my feet thoroughly, only to find…

My senior year AP English teacher had us read Heart of Darkness and then she showed us Apocalypse Now on VHS (not sanitized) in 2 or more class sessions.

Previously, I had only seen the sanitized version of AN on TV.

I finished it. I read it in english, with the french translation on the right page. It was a welcome help. I like it, it is a bit on the weird delirium induced fever side but i like it.
