I am generally a pretty sparse person. I don't like clutter and will dispose of things pretty easily, but..... I have all the product packaging from my music gear. Today I put on the curb for free a display case from the basement which we haven't used in years. Stacked next to the case was all the boxes, and they are still there in the basement. I do like when I purchased a used item if it has the original box, somehow I feel it has been better cared for.

I keep 'em for a while, then toss. My friend brings me a new tablet he bought, and says I can't seem to get it to work. Can you? First question, "Did you read the instructions that came in the packaging?" No, I threw it all away. I shoulda just made something up like, you need the activation code that's in the instructions. But, I Googled it and got it working in seconds. If all else fails, READ THE DIRECTIONS!

+1 I keep electronics/pedal boxes in case I want to resell them in the future. I only have about 10 of them though.

I also keep original packaging for some things until the warranty expires on the product. A lot of places won't take returns if you don't have the original packaging.

I avoid this question entirely by living in an apartment.

I’m also not at all sentimental or nostalgic, and each guitar has a hard case.

I figure that’s good enough.

You might want to keep the boxes and the manuals and so on in case you re sell-them later. Value increases a lot when there is the whole thing. See video games value.

I, too, have suffered from this problem. It eventually resolves, but the process can take many years.

It’s a disaster- generally the packaging takes up more space than the actual products, so we end up with all this stuff taking up all our space. With guitar pedals, it would help if the boxes weren’t so nice - I like the minimal brown cardboard boxes the most 😐

I am with the OP. I hate clutter but I keep the boxes and papers for everything. I always say: “oh, just until the warranty is up” but I have boxes for electronics where the warranty is very expired. For guitar gear, it does help when selling if we have the box, but I have boxes for printers, shavers, kitchen appliances etc. I fold up the big ones but they still all take too much space.
