My main desktop just give me the blue screen of death. Tried to let it run some test with no positive results. I couldnt even do a system restore because I forgot my administrator password. Any advice on how or what to do next,if anything, would be appreciated. THANKS.

Couldn't hurt to open up your box and reseat your memory and hard drive connections. Maybe you'll get lucky and just have a bad connection. Probably not but it's worth a try.

    Yay! A happy ending! Wonderful!

If you don't already have a way to make full data backups of your computer, now is the time to get one. If you have a full data backup, a computer crash is just an annoyance. If you don't have your data safe, it can be a real nightmare.

One really good thing to have handy for future emergencies like this is a Linux live-cd. When your Windows install gets corrupted beyond repair, this can be a life-saver - you can boot off the Linux disc and do things like copying any data that you have not already backed up to an external drive or USB key.

Some years ago I was called in to help a friend of a friend whose computer had crashed and would not boot. She was really distressed because all her family photos from the past ten years or more were on that computer - and there was no backup at all.

The story had a happy ending. I was able to rescue her data using a Linux live-CD. And her husband was in a Beatles tribute band, and he gave me and my wife free tickets to their next show as a thank you. :)
