I've got the Emma Transmorgrifier, which is a four-knob compressor with settings for attack and release, as well as level and compression.
I guess I'm one of those guys who doesn't exactly understand what it's supposed to do. Unlike everything else on my pedal board, the effect is really subtle, even with the knobs cranked.

You know, a lot of people say the MXR doesn't work for them...but it does the job for me. Purpose, accentuate a muted note condusive with chicken picking so that it is at a similar volume to a regular note that is played. That is what a compressor does for "country" pickin for ME...and the MXR Dyna Comp does it for me. I have both a 70's script and an 80's model. Actually, I prefer the later.
orange juicer compressors are different than others, they have a jrc4558 chip ,co they even have a little grit, 30 dbs of compression, I'm keepin' the Guyatone though ,it is good

Back in the 80's I used the old MXR Dyna-comp. Seems like most everyone I ran into back then was using it, too. Recently I picked up one of the reissues and it seems pretty faithful to the original. l do have an old Boss CS-3 as a spare, but have never used it. I may have to check out the Barber.

Churchie and zoppotrump,
Just out of curiosity, do you use it as it came from Keeley or have you adjusted the internal attack control? I've got a 2 knob version and have never adjusted the attack. I just wondered how adjusting it would affect the sound.

I've had the two knob and the four knob versions.
I only ever touched the attack on the 4-Knob when I was switching between single coil and humbucker equipped guitars, and seeing as the Les Paul was on loan that means I hardly touched it once it was set for the single coils and the LP went back. Before I got it I thought I would use that control a lot but in reality I did not.
I tried playing with the Attack control, found the sweet spot, and that was that. I can't remember where on the dial it was because it was a while ago, but I would guess I set it reasonably high.
What I can say for sure is that for some reason, and I know not why, the two knob version of the pedal sounded better than the four knob. I thought I was imagining it and then read others with the same conclusions. The 2 knob one I had was older and I bought it used, the 4 knob I bought brand new direct.
Both were great pedals but for my money the two knob version is best (and FYI I left any internal trim pots as is).
Of course, I sold both pedals and got the even better sounding* Analog Man Mini Bicomp.
If it is any help to anyone I stopped buying compressors when I got the Analog Man, whereas before that I was pretty much buying up every one I ever heard of! I now only own two, the BiComp and a CS-2 (just because I was too sentimental to get rid of it). I use comps for a lot of styles but above all they have to cut it for country.
* Caveat - to my ears at least, FWIW.

Never touched the attack control. I like how it sounds with both my Tele and Strat. I may have a play though at some stage and make sure I get the most out if this little box....

Keeley Compressor for me! (Older 2 knob version) Love what it does for my sound. Whether I am playing clean or dirty that thing sounds truly amazing!

KEELEY! 2 or four knob. both are great. the keeley 2 knob has an adjustable attack and trim also but you have to remove the back of the pedal to adjust

HBE CPR compressor retro........very transparent, used to use a dyna comp all the time, until I tried this, can't turn it off......awesome. and great price. sound between a dyna and a ross.....but much quieter....

The Bonepicker compressor sustainer models $125.00 for the two knob and $145.00 for the three!!
Clean transparent tone, my friend builds them and have sold every one we built I think it is at 20 or so on the two knobs, lost count until we started taking records! I sold five right out the gate on Ebay at $125.00 we were shocked that they went so fast everybody loved them. The three knob model just came out we have four ready to go. I have been using the three knobber one for a month now and the tone control sells me no hiss and the sustain is fantastic. I dont have a photo of the three knob Bone Squeeze but it is at the web site.

Do you have an Orange Squeezer to compare the two?
Da Squeezer seems a little high in price for what you’re getting and the additional $25.00 for LED and AC jack? Honestly contact Jim at www.bonepickerguitaramps.com Compressors are matters of taste I personaly don’t like compressors that squeeze the signal so much it strangles it to death and hisses back at you like a Constricting Boa.

Analogman charges more and charges $15 just for the AC Jack.
That Baja stuff is pretty good, I've got an older version of their Da Squeezer and it's never left my pedal board.

I have 2 of these, a newer MXR DynaComp and a older Boss CS-2. They only seem to work for me when I'm using single coil pickups. If I'm using a humbucker guitar the tone looses it's full bodied sound.
