Not much to report. It's like watching paint dry (well oil) dry at the moment.

With a 4hr wait time I wipe down the guitar with oil. Once dried I then hit it with 0000 stainless steel wool and repeat.

Tonights I got the 6th coat on. You can see a small mark on the soundboard just left of the bridge (see previous post). This mark looks like superglue on the surface that isn't taking the oil. Ive scraped that section back, sanded and recoated. I'm interested to see whether this fixes the issue once it's dry.

I'm now waiting 24hrs for it to harden and then will apply some polishing wax.

Hopefully it will be all good.

On track for stringing up on Wed. From what I can tell, I string it up with a high action. Let the neck settle and move (or bridge as the case maybe) and once that settles down I'll start to bring the action down on the saddle and nut. Once i'm happy with the action i'll then concentrate on intonation by filing the bridge saddle.

I'm going to take my time to get it right so i give it end of the week and I should be ready to record.

    Cheers

    Matthew

I think more bling next time...

    Matthew[/QUOTE]

I think bling is over rated Matt, where beautiful timber, good design and craftsmanship never go out of style.

    Thanks guys

I was thinking about more design on the back strip and the bindings get nicely boxed on the bottom of the guitar. Looks pretty nice when it's done. It could be tricky so that will be for another guitar.

    Cheers

    Update time.

After 6 coats of oil it is time to move on.

I have left 24hrs before polishing the guitar.

First up is to cut the saddle to correct length.

The ends need to be rounded. 800 grit sandpaper helps with that job.

Then it's a case of just shortening the length until it fits in the saddle. Once it's close it's time to check if it sits all the way down.

The key here.. is if it's Tight it's not right... you don't want it over tight.

I push the saddle in and mark where it comes up the bridge. You can see here that compared to the saddle slot depth it's not sitting all the way in.

A bit more trial and error and it eventually sits nicely in the slot.

    Next up is polishing.

Hit the guitar with 0000 steel wool to give it a dull lustre.

Wipe on this wax using a clean cloth.

Wipe away with some lambs wool.

I did this 3 times and the guitar is done. There are a couple of areas i'm not happy with. Any minor imperfection in the surface shows up. Overall it's pretty good. Very happy with the soundboard.

I have put some lemon oil on the fretboard.

That's it for tonight.. strings on tomorrow and i'll hear the first sounds..
