    It's finally here.

This year i'm going to build a smaller body (CA) acoustic guitar using Australian tone woods.

I have 3 sets of timber to choose from and decided to go with

    Cooba Back and Sides
    King William Pine Sound board
    Silver Wattle Neck
    Maple Bracing
    Gidgee Fretboard
    Maple neck and tail blocks

Rosette: Possibly a timber one made from cooba or tiger myrtle.
Bindings: Possible tiger myrtile or I might go with a Jarrah.

    Photos of timber to come.

    Good luck to all participants.

Great looking timber Matt. What is Cooba? Never heard of it before. Love to get my hands on some more gidgee all mine is gone or too small, just love the way it finishes. I had some years ago and did a fret board from it and it looked like a planetary system seen from a long way off. Just beautiful stuff.

Some type of willow, yes? Anyone else seeing a sad bird face in the top wood? It's looking right at me!

There could be a complete build challenge with that as a theme.

Wow, that's some stunning wood. Have to admit I'd never heard of cooba before, but might just have to hunt some down now. :)

Good call Ronald.. it's a willow that is grown in eastern Australia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia_salicina

according to cole clarks website it's a similar tone to blackwood.

The grain is like one of those flash cards you see psycs use in movies. As long as no one sees anything violent we should be ok.

The rest of the timber shots.

Soundboard is King William Pine - next to that is the silver wattle neck blank

Starting from the top left and going in a counter clockwise direction we have.

Scrap tiger myrtle and cooba that maybe used to make the rosette
    Bridge Plate (maple?)
Neck and Tail Block - Maple
    Back bracing - maple
Gidgee - bridge and fingerboard blank
Some scrap maple that can be used for centre strips.

    The Workshop

The last 6 months i've been converting the garage into a workshop. It's taken along time to get it cleaned and organised but i'm pretty happy with the end outcome.

I'm worried about the humidity while building this acoustic so the garage door has been sealed with foam and i have a dehumidified on standby in case it's needed.

Here are a couple of pics. It really shows how addictive this hobby can become.

    Standard Drill Press

    14inch bandsaw.

Tormek sharpenning station. - makes it really easy for me to get a good edge on a chisel

Drop Saw - for cutting smaller bits of timber this has been really useful. The festool stuff is very accurate so it makes my life easier using it.

Belt sander - I have a feeling i'm going to use this a lot for this build. For my tele build i used the ross a fair bit.

Drum Sander - not used yet so hopefully it can get my sides/tops/backs to the correct thickness

Some dust extraction - yes things have got way out of control

Humidity is all good. Running 3 different measuring points.

I'll probably be able to start joining the top after work today.

In the meantime i'll show a few jigs that i have made over the last month.

A mixture of sawing jigs and a shooting board.

Guitar mold made. On the right is the parts for a jig that will help me cut the binding channel.
