Wonder what's left in the hat ?
Before I can get most of the red off I have to put it on right?
Sanded the top & back with 220 grit.
Mixed up some airbrush colors to get oxblood red.
While thats drying on to the picguard.
Does not look too bad for $0.68 cents.
Kinda reminds me of an old '50s diner countertop.
When it is warm it cuts nice when it is cold it is brittle.
this stuff does make a mess so getting less for the router to cut
should make less of a mess !
The red is dry ready to be sanded and buffed.
When I planed this out I was thinking of those old wooden
hand painted signs.
Just keep buffing by hand till I get what I want.
Aluminum don't rust so good so we will just do it with
Looks bad I know . . . but I am just getting started.
I must have 50 half used cans of spray paint that I am trying
to use up.
Ibanez had an RG or JEM with a finish kinda like that not too long ago. It was green with that same kinda grey showing through from underneath. I can't seem to find a pic though.
I would love to see a pic of that !
Ibanez has had ever kinda of finish I can think of over the years.
I think I got it to look like rust.
Time for real rust!
Got some muriatic acid N A S T Y stuff
Here is my 1st try.
The cup in the center has the acid look at the new soup can on the right.
After 20 min now look at the can wow.
This was brand new 8 hr ago.
The can looks fuzzy and chalky but it is gooey and slimy.
24 hr and by the way this is not for this build the turners are just a test.
Umm... wow. Probably don't want to get any of THAT on your hands
2 quick coats of amber shellac.
Put the last logo on the back after a quick coat of
Porcelain Crackle Glaze
2nd coat of porcelain crackle
I sprayed some krylon glitter and gold paint on the top half.
Yes it does sting and then you get this crazzy itch!
Much Much worse to get in your lungs 1st time I took off
the box top I coughed for 3 min and wanted to vomit!
Some pix of the back crackle.
Hey martino , That rust looks fantastic !! Great paint job too, Kinda reminds me of that trussart rusty caster thingamajig.
Can't wait for the end , this is gonna be close. I would hate to be a judge on this comp !!
That isthe best compliment you could have given me
I consider this to be Fine Art
Really nice project and that is! a quite unique paint job...I really like it!
I want to see the finished product!
Keep the good work flowing mate!
Thanks for finding that
Working on the tuners and the neck.
Did that so I can hang them in the acid tank.
Feel like a kid who caught a little snake and am trying to feed him a
If I stare at it it won't rust.
Got to go back to the body now I am all most done . . .
with the top
I do Not need quit as much drama or distress as the back got.
Sprayed it with clear shellac then the valspar Porcelain Crackle Glaze
When it is dry I hit it with just a tinny bit of gold glitter.
You can see ever brush stroke it does tone down a lot
after sanding it with 320 grit . . but still dont think it would
be good for a True "relic"!
Think I will call my style of relic ROAD-KILL in stead of
" Road Worn "
More top photos and let this be a lesson to you kids out there
Do Not try this at home . . . . go over to the nabors house cause it makes
a big mess!
All most looks frozen.
