The rule is quite clear and as a pro golfer he really should have known that waiting x6 the permissible time wouldn't wash.
No doubt it makes good TV and gives the presenters something to prattle on about - but they too should know the rule!

I mean, wait long enough and that golf ball would disappear into the earth never mind the hole!

I have thrown my putter into a tree in less time than that.

Heck, the non-pro links are filled with players who cheat a bit or even more commonly “forget” strokes or act like they don’t know some basic rules. The pros should know better. I thought it was a bit more than 10 seconds but 10 seconds is plenty long enough.

Golf is an enjoyable game. My official line is “my handicap is that I suck at golf”. You’re welcome to use that. My nickname where I used to work was Snowman. But it is fun to be out and chase a ball and I can appreciate how very much it takes for someone to be great especially with the mental part.

That said some of the rules are dumb.

I'd throw it at the clubhouse, and then blame Danny Noonan.

Bad on Kim for not knowing the rule, and double bad on his caddy for not providing back-up advice on the rule.

The same rule applies to every pro on the tour.

This is not a chess tournament. It's golf.

It seems a harsh rule, but the player should have been, probably was aware of the rule. Where the rub is, you can't hit a ball which is in motion anyplace else but when it's hanging on the cup. Even if it's moving, and you're going to run out of time before it drops you should go ahead and hit the ball. You will not be assessed a moving ball penalty. If they didn't adhere to the rule, you'd have guys waiting until dark for a ball to drop, or maybe an alligator, or dog, or scurrying squirrel to knock it in if it was within a foot of the hole, that's just how they are. If a rule can be used to an advantage, they will use it. Last week, a player made three bad shots that ended up costing him about $600,000 dollars. Sometimes one shot can be worth that much, that's why they are careful to get as many freebies as they can.

That's a pretty old rule. I can't imagine the player and the caddy didn't know the rule. I think the player if he could see movement thought he was protected by the not being able to hit a moving ball rule. Which of course depends on who you are, Phil Mickelson putted a moving ball that would have ended up twenty yards off the green one time in a tournament, and didn't as far as I know even get a penalty for doing it. He made like a nine on the hole anyway but it should have been one more. The rules officials ran off some gibberish about why he didn't get the penalty, sounded like they might be part time FB refs (with seeing eye dogs).

If a goof like that made the difference between winning the tournament and coming in second, I'd have fired my caddy. They get paid to do way more than wash your balls and keep your bag dry.
