The city limits deluxe is another tempting guitar. If I didn't have a McInturff taurus(single cutaway double humbucker) in the same style, I'd be all omver it.
A tele is a must for everyone.

Nice one on the McInturff! Very well regarded maker from what ive heard.

The CL jazz is a great guitar, I tried one. I think the mini-humbucker must be voiced a bit differently in that guitar, and of course the design is totally different.
Too bad the waiting time is so long and that they seem to be taking no new orders for these at the moment.

I first learned on an archtop jazz box, so I'm always sentimental about them. Of course, the guitar I learned on was nowhere near the quality of a CL Jazz, but still...I can dream.

It took me a minute or two to work out what that first sentence was saying. The "Bones" reference threw me. So, you're into naming your guitars?

Not all of them have names, only the ones that are special to me and have earned names. I have some keepers that I've not named yet either since the name has just not happened yet for some reason.

But yes, I named my 2013 Collings Soco Deluxe Mahagony topped TV Jones Filtertrons with the reverse doghair finish "Bones" - There is a story behind it to be sure.

i named my Soco Deluxe maple top with Lollar imperials "Erma" after my granmother who made us each quilts. The maple top is quilted.

I named my tricone resonator ''Arlene" after my maternal grandmother who was a wonder woman to us kids but hell on wells to the man she married and who could do no right... lol She was a true gem.

Don't know why I name them other than I won't name a guitar that I won't keep forever. After the name, their one of mine and I won't part with them easily.

Bones is a awesome guitar too btw!! My last practice I have to force myself to leave it home and bring my gig out guitar which I ended up doing. My gig out guitar is my 1980 Ibanez AS200 with Lollar Imperial standard wind humbukers in it. Its a beauty too, totally road tested and a bit crusty.

I don't really name my guitars, but I sure like your approach to naming yours, the rationale behind it. :D Kinda makes me wish I'd thought of doing something like that.

Naming guitars in honor of a relatives can be a good way to justify getting more guitars! I have to look into this!

Hehe there you go Bear! Dont be surprised when your next new Collings comes in a Collings made case either....

The names also help when im speaking to friends and family about them. Or I ask my son to "go get Bones" he knows exactly what guitar I mean. Plus arriving at a name for a keeper I s alot of fun.

I came extremly close to picking up a Winfield a few months back. Dream guitar for sure, just not the right time.

Hopefully there will be other chances. Getting my first Collings was the best thing I ever did guitar-wise. It has defined who I am as a musician.
Would love to own an acoustic Collings.

Very different here because I'm not a pro, but my purchase got exactly what I wanted trying so many guitars. It was also more value than many might think if Gibson's Memphis fat neck, Gibson Custom Shop and Fender custom shop are the competition. A great part of what I got with my SoCo 16 is no GAS. It's fun to look at new guitars but all I have to do is touch and hear the Collings and it's all to great to think of buying anything else.

The Collings acoustics I've tried are awesome in a similar way but I have a Santa Cruz GAS killer.

I've ended up same and opposite many where I certainly spent $ on gear but brought it down to very little in terms of quantity.

Maybe a slope shoulder when I'm retired.... For now not even enough time to play what I have as I'd like.

I hope I'm not breaking forum ediquette but there is a Collings SoCo Deluxe on ebay right now which had I not spent the wad on Bones and the 66 reverb I would buy this instant. Anyone who gets this guitar is really getting something. Gosh I wish I could get this guitar and it would complete my SoCo Deluxe collection..... Soco, quilted maple top, dog ear Lollar P90's (glorious, glorious), Bigsby (love having the option to play with the whammy every once and a while) and the flared Collings headstock which just pushes my buttons.

Here is one for consideration:

Try the I35 LC out! Wow, what a great guitar. Every single one of them I try, I like. So far without exception, no bad apples. imho the Collings manufacturing and quality control process used in their production processes is nearly without comparison. They play, handle, and sound so well and the craftsmanship and spray finishes are found to be impeccable in each case. They are certainly not unique in this regard though as there are other awesome companies out there doing it right as well!

proviso - I'm not saying they have never turned out a lemon or a defect, I just have not heard about it yet and the 1 story I hear in the future will not detract me from this belief. I've played a bunch and haven't found one lacking yet.

I think its neat for us to be involved with this guitar hobby (profession for some) during this great guitar renaissance - that is what we have been in the middle of for the last decade or so, it certainly feels that way to some of us older Joe's.

True, but I chose the SoCo 16 after trying the I35 and SoCo in all wood and laminate.

For the most part my SoCo 16 is VERY much like the I35 LC - neck, pickups, most tones. When I took the plunge, Dave's had a few each of those, all wood models and some great Gibsons. The SoCo LC the bigger sounding low notes like the Gibson 335s but all the sweetness of the I35s. All very subtle stuff. Chords sounded much the same but it seemed like the extra size made the individual notes stand out more when you would dig in.

IMO SoCo 16 is the guitar for anybody who's heard an old 335 and has a hard time with Gibson quality and pricing.

I need to get to work but now I want to touch the guitar and hear it through the Princeton Reverb!

I'm sure I've posted this before:
