As Harry Smith might summarize it: MAN FORCED TO WORK OUTDOORS, DRINK APPLE JUICE; REVENGE THREATENED.

Trad Appalachian tune with vocal, guitars, banjo and harmonica. It was covered by many over the years (e.g. the Grateful Dead played it throughout their career). This is actually a murder ballad, but I downplayed the dastardly deed, as did the Dead. (Much) more on the history at Cold Rain and Snow - Introduction - Sing Out!

Nice! My family on my father’s side is from eastern Kentucky Appalachian stock and love all kinds of roots music.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for listening and commenting!

I've been working up stuff I learned a long time ago, but never got much of a chance to play. A lot of it is trad, though my arrangements often are not.
