If you have to hear that bad news, hearing it at 91 must make it easier.
I have walked away from cancer once and lost 2 friends this past year to various forms of cancer....nobody was over 50. It is sad news and hard on the family, but reaching 91 is a pretty good run.
May God bless him in his journey.
I came to Tallahassee to attend FSU in 1979 just when Bobby was really getting it going, and actually those days when we were underdogs and kicking butt were much more fun than after the first championship in '93. Heck, we beat the Gators four years in a row when I was in school.
Anyway, regardless of football he is a good man.
While Terry (his son) was coaching at U of A I was doing sound at the home games. Bobby and his wife were at many games to support their son’s team. The family was all over the top two floors of the stadium during and before the games They radiated good vibes every time you saw them. I’m sorry to hear this bad news.
U of A?
Do you mean Auburn (which is AU for Auburn University)?
He is a good man and it is unfortunate he is enduring it.
University of Akron - One year they made it to the Potato Bowl (WTH?) still the only bowl game for the school. Also the only big ten victory for the program in 2018 vs Northwestern.
Not everybody dug Bowdenball but before and after that the program has been hopeless even by MAC standards.
Best wishes to and prayers for Bobby Bowden. He once spoke at our church, in place of the preacher one Sunday. Fine man and a great coach.
Is U of Akron the "Zips?" They played in the Grantland Rice Bowl in Murfreesboro, TN in December 1968, vs. La. Tech. Tech won. Tech's quarterback, one Terry Bradshaw, threw a touchdown pass with three or four Akron linemen hanging on him. I remember, because I played in the Tech Band.
It was the coldest I have ever been. Our instruments froze. The fanfare at the beginning of our part of the halftime show went "Twah Twaaah, Twah Twah" instead of "Tah Taaah, Tah Tah" because the valves, keys, and slides were moving slowly and sluggishly. After a few measures they thawed out.
It is reported that bobby Bowden has pancreatic cancer.
