I just got home from a two-nighter at a local dive-bar so I'll post while this is fresh on my mind.

Last night, while setting-up, the Club Owner came over to us and told us he was glad that he didn't have to worry about anybody in our band stealing anything from his club. The tone of his voice was Genuine, but it still seemed an odd thing to bring up.

Tonight we got the rest of the story!

Wednesday night is one of their Jam Nights.

A guitar player took a Woman's coat (from her table while she was talking to friends) in to the Men's room, took everything of value he could find from it, rolled it up under his jacket, put it in his gig-bag, walked out of the club with it and dumped it in the parking lot.

The woman he did this to is dying of Liver Cancer. We had a Benefit for her a few months back to raise some money for her.

They didn't catch him until they rolled-back the surveillance video at the end of the night.

    What a cold-hearted ####ard!

I know bad things happen to nice people all the time, but it still bothers me.

I'm assuming he's on the list for a clocking with a Telecaster whenever he's seen in the future?

I doubt he checked her medical records before stealing from her, but either way, completely cretinous behaviour!

    Enjoying her life?

I guess you're assuming she's drinking. Not necessarily the case, of course.

Of course stealing is bad. if she had been a 22 year old trust baby with a dynamite figure it would have been just as bad for me...

I'm just interested in the details... I didn't assume that she was drinking, but just found that element of the story worth asking about, obviously stealing is repulsive and awful, that is the easy part, I wanted to hear about the other details that seemed to be important to the OP....

you were assuming I was assuming, I'm just asking a question for more clarification...

Maybe the band's name is the Boy Scouts. They're clean too!

    GOOD POINT!
I forgot to mention why she was there!

She is a well-known and, much-loved member of our little Musical Community.
One hell of a Singer with the kind of on-stage charisma that came to her like a fish to water.
She gigged constantly for over 25 years with her own band.
Her band was always a work-in-progress. While she had a revolving-door attitude amongst the 'band', it was never a secret.

It was a Blues/Soul kind of thing with a few of her own songs thrown in for good effect.
If a gig came up, she took it. Then she would throw whom ever she could to play it. We admired the way she did business.

Played with her many times over the years.
No matter how it started, it always ended with smiles, hugs and, a packed dance floor.

Despite her condition, she still makes the effort to come out and support the locals.
There were a lot of people there that night that had played with her.

We got her up last night for three songs. But that is about all she is good for. She just doesn't have the energy anymore.

The guy that did that too her is a marked man.
He hangs out at the Jam Nights around town and does his share of jamming.
I know who he is, and so does half the town.
The Owner 86'ed his sorry ass.

Don't know where he'll go now, but I hope it is far, far, away.

    Yes, we are.
We have been playing his club once a month for almost a year.
Individually, we have decades of experience playing around these parts.

Plus he has over a dozen camera's in his club and 5 more in the parking lots.

    He knows.

    Had to throw it away.
In his haste to find the goods, he tore it up.
    What an A-hole.

String Tree, that is a heck of an adventure and I give you tremendous credit for putting up with so many questions... you are a great sport and I'm glad the story had a good outcome and that you had good gigs... I hope the thief pays for his misdeeds!

    thanks man!

Has he been charged? Were the police called? You'd think all of those cameras would make this a pretty clear case for the cops. I'm glad the owner "86'd his sorry ass," but wouldn't it be better to have him arrested?

kelnet, there are legal requirements for security cameras... if the cameras don't meet the requirements, the DA will not charge the perp.

I recently upgraded our camera systems at work to meet the standard. Before I worked there, we had a theft, we could tell who the person was and fired them, but could not prosecute.. not enough useable evidence!

If you want to see/hear/experience weird behavior, go to a dive bar.
It's where its at, plain and simple.
No big deal, just be careful and smart.
After 40 years of gigging, I could write a book.

that is the part you are interested in... I'm interested in the whole story...

I used to play in a club and everytime we'd play there we'd laugh about the pork rinds they sold that you put in the microwave...

but.. I always checked the expiration date... everytime we'd go there, I'd realize they sold a lot of them....

at the same place I wondered how long a bottle of livorno would last... a really LONG TIME... same bottle for like 18 months...

Why is the title about club patron behavior? this is clearly guitar player behavior.

    Just piling on.
