With regards to the river direction, consider that rivers don’t always run in straight lines. Besides that what river was it? I'm sure people assume it’s supposed to be the Mississippi but in reality there are any one of a dozen different large rivers they could have crossed traveling to somewhere near Comanche country. :D

Pissing off Clint to get his reaction is like hoping Don Rickles would burn on you at his show. It's going to be severe but now you know you really experienced the man.

I live a couple miles from the real/fictional location where Gran Torino was set/shot , and let me tell you, if you live there ?

Clint’s attitude is your default/baseline setting...

I believe it was the Missouri River that he crossed while heading towards Texas, which implies that he is on the west side of a river that flows to the south, so regardless of where along any mile of that river, the water should flow left to right in the scene. Even if that portion of the river is flowing north geographically at that specific scene, he has crossed it and is on the west side, so the water would still run left to right in that scene.

I see nothing in the scene that supports your hypothesis.

If you think that water flow is a big deal, look up the bloopers they made in filming. I've never caught it, but supposedly at one point you can see Josey Wales, and for just an instant as the camera pans wildly, Eeastwood sitting in his directors chair calling the shots!

I always liked Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns, but I found Lee Van Cleef more intimidating. Clint always looked tough, but Van Cleef looked...evil. :)

I can. I've never been impressed with him as an actor, although he's done some damn fine directing.

Well, admittedly the scene alone looks fine, but in context with the movie/story, Clint is fleeing from soldiers and heading towards Texas ... implying that he has just crossed the Missouri. So if he is going towards Texas and crossing the Missouri, he is on the west side and the Missouri runs south, so the camera is looking east, hence the water should be going from north to south. North naturally being off to his left, the river should be moving left to right.

That requires some assumptions about the origin of their journey. All that is certain is the time period being at the end of the war. There isn’t any indication of what state they are in.
