I want a 60's Thinline. I look at the Classic Vibe for $479 then I look at the Fender for $2100 and now I'm wondering what am I missing. I can get the Squire and upgrade everything on it and still save $1000. Is this correct or am I missing something? Can anyone shed some light on this...thx

I can only speak from experience with the Squier CV and an AVRI '69.

I've had two different CVs, they're great for the price. There aren't many other guitars I'd want more in that price range. They play well, they're usually very consistent, and the pickups really don't need to be swapped. It sounds good.

But, I will say the AVRI is one of the best guitars I've ever had. I didn't hold onto it because I was fighting the 7.25" radius and small frets, but I kick myself sometimes. It rang like a bell, super resonant, beautiful tone. Felt great. The one I had at least was very comparable to CS quality, in my opinion.

A CV is a really good guitar for the price, truly, but it won't turn into a $2000 Fender (or an AVRI).

One thing to note: I did put a Baja neck on one of the CVs...and it was a huge improvement. Not just with the neck, but also tonally. It won't get you all the way to a high end instrument, but it's an easy mod with a big payoff...if you can find someone who will sell their Baja neck these days.

Thanks for your input...I was thinking of getting the CV and see how I like it and then maybe get a replacement neck that is roasted and is V shaped....and other upgrades if necessary

I agree with you but then again I’m prejudiced. I happen to love my Squier thinline. (I have two CV teles but my thinline tele is a ‘97 Korean made “Pro Tone” model. Great guitar.)

To the OP: good question. I'll be interested to see what people here have to say about this.

A few months ago I bought a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Thinline Tele at my local GC. I also tried several Fender tele's that were priced in the mid-$1,000s, and every one of them had an electrical problem (a pickup wasn't working in one of them, the sound cut in and out on another one, etc.). The Squier Thinline played great. I realize others' experience with expensive Fenders are different than mine was.

Are you buying online, or from a retail store?

And to @Leonardocoate -- what is AVRI?

I have one, the neck is really thin. I hardly play it. I have been debating on replacing the neck. Other than the neck its good guitar....lol
I did replace the pickups and wiring in it before I realized I hated the neck.
Oh also mine came with tall narrow frets...don't like them either.
Good Luck

I guess this is why playing before buying is a smart thing to do? That way you don't hate crucial parts of the guitar :) lol live & learn
