So I put a few items on the local CL and of course I have seen a few scam attempts before but this is kind of funny. I put 4 items on, 3 today and all are parts for work vans or trucks shelving and racks. Well within 5 minutes I get an email about each item to contact someones mother or wife that she is interested in each item I just have to respond to some hokey email address. I am not sure what the scam would be as the African prince already tried to borrow money from me and the credit card and bank account I don't have are already trying to get me to respond to them just about every day. And just 2 days ago my computer was taken over by some entity. Never mind the phone calls from just about every state in the US, It just never gets old does it?
I am not a violent person by nature but this makes a guy want to find a criminal and get busy ;).
    Rant over

only reply to Craigslist inquiries through the Craigslist link that sent the email to you.
In other words, don't start a new email using the persons email address. You do that, they got a live email account and they'll sell it. And you'll get tons of spam.
Just click reply and respond in the body of that email and it goes back through Craigslist. And they never see your real email address.

I do not do CL but I have heard so many horror stories to even include murder … I wonder why CL does not become more responsible for their site ?

That's never happened to me. Yet.
I ask them to send me their phone number so I can call them. I never put my phone number in the ads.
Scammers usually go away when you do that.

    It's a free service
They provide the place for ads to be placed
They have warnings and advice on the site
I don't expect anymore than that. It's kind of like putting an index card on a bulletin board at a public place

When selling on CL I always suggest meeting at police dept lot (security cams) and most
go well. Some do refuse and so be it.

    Why should they take responsibility?
In the days when you put ads in the local newspaper classifieds, was the paper responsible if you got murdered by someone posing as a “buyer”?

I’ll never used CL. I suppose it has its pluses and the success rate may outweigh the scams, you just never hear about the successes. But Ive heard enough BS to say, no thanks! But I also don’t have any odd pieces to sell, but even if I did I’d probably use eBay over CL.

Sorry..this comment really adds nothing to your post..haha. But there you have it :)

I think I am just done with it I may load the truck up and head to the scrapyard. I wonder what value my LP studio has in scrap since no one seems to want to buy that either .

I'd imagine that there could be liability if they are providing a platform for illegal activity .
    Certainly site safety responsibility ?

I’ve sold a couple things on CL and it’s gone ok. I ignored the obvious scammers. I’ll never buy from there. Tried 4-5 times. Never even got a reply.

I admire people that are good at selling. I've got so much clutter I'd like to get rid of but I just don't have the patience to deal with the endless stream of low ballers, knuckleheads, and thieves.

I still browse Craig'sList out of habit, but never see anything I'd be interested in......I guess the ironic thing is, it would have to be a deal too good to be true to even interest me, and yet you know what they say about something that seems too good to be true, right? Catch 22.......;)

The ghostly fake sellers are more and more prominent as well. There’s a couple of guitars on CL I emailed about but no reply - at least from the alleged seller. However, lots of other email traffic now! Those ads for the guitars are still up but I think it’s another email harvesting thing.
