How about Jack Purcells? These are what I tore up the neighborhood in. After that I wore other things besides sneakers. Like Frye boots.

Never worn Vans, but used to wear Converse when I was much, much younger.Back then when I wasn't playing a guitar,I was playing basketball and Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars were the shoe of choice for that.I remember that all I got were the generic tennis shoes from stores like Kmart and my step-dad buying me my first pair of Converse and what he said when he gave them to me. I remember that moment like it was yesterday,he said sternly," Boy, I paid $9.00 for those shoes, you better take care of them." I was 12 years old and in junior high school,so that would've been in 1965.My how times have changed.

Behind my beard.
Chucks - black / white hi-tops.

Never had Vans, but did have a pair of DC's - which felt 'lumpy' by comparison.

These days though - New Rocks, or sensible office brogues when required.

So Vans are skater shoes.
I'm so old, I remember when skateboards
were a brand new thing.
I'm also so old that sneakers were just sneakers.
Chucks (we called em Converse All Stars) were the only game in town, in my youth.
Thanks for listening.

Both. Docs too.

What can I say? I went to high school in the 80s and parts of me never really grew up.

Fallen arches here :(

I used to wish for fallen arches!
That way the whole bottom of your foot gets calloused for being barefoot.
I love being barefoot, but always had that soft arch that got poked, stung, whatever.
I spent some time growing up in the Caribbean and all my local buddies had these great flat feet!

My feet are too wide for the chucks. I tried a few pairs many years back but I busted those suckers out the sides in only a few weeks! Honestly I bust the vans out too but I get a little more time outta them. I usually go with sketchers and get their wide size selection.

Chucks or Vans don't establish or erode a man card. Now acting like a pussyfoot will, but it wouldn't matter what was covering your feet in that instance.
