First, you need to be able to play the chromatic scale fluently. Then start playing note-to-note within the scale, with no skips. Try to spin out snakey chromatic lines, but with the condition of no skips or gaps.

Just something to do that might be a little different for your reflexes.

I have no idea what you're asking. What do you mean by skips and gaps.

    This is my chromatic approach,

    A7
    -8--5--------------------------------------------5---
    ---------6-----9---6-----------------------5-------8
    -------------7----------6------8---6--7------------
    ------------------------------8-------------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------

I bet that's not what your asking for =)

Well that certainly is chromatic, but how would it function? (situation to use it)

Good question, ASATKat. When I first read Larry’s post on October 23, I wondered the same thing. I was hoping for some illumination myself. It is a serious exercise physically and aurally, I suppose. And...one could use it learn the fretboard if one named the notes as they were played.
Here is One player’s perspective on he usage.

If I understand correctly, "No skips, no gaps" means only motion by 1/2 step.
Maybe like this. Sorry, I don't do TAB ...

Yes, Ken is right. I've been following some viola players on FB, and they have been talking about how to maintain your level of technique. The previous generation of viola pedagogues recommend chromatic scales, and lots of them.

For myself, I found that I hiccuped or stumbled when trying to maintain a steady flow of notes. The challenge is much more interesting if you confine yourself to stepwise motion. (Stepwise chromatic motion is when you play note-to-note without skipping over any. A skip is when you omit a note in a stepwise environment.)

The Petrucci lessons to which I linked to the initial lesson seem to be a full examination of the chromatic scale and possible uses. It appears that there are following lessons....end of 2018 and the first months of 2019....it anyone would want to investigate.
