Choosing between two new guitars. Help me pick one, or suggest something else!

Mustang for me.
Love P90s don’t like Strats... Easy choice.

 

if you don't have a single coil strat or tele I would take the strat.............but check out used on craigslist or guitar center used gear for some better deals if you are comfortable with that

play a mustang, play a strat. They are nothing like each other so, decide which you prefer. I know which one I would want, but I'm not you.

 

What guitars do you already have?

 

You can always find a Strat. Buy the oddball if you have any. Seriously take a chance on something different then grab a strat later. Win-win!

 

I would choose the Strat because first of all I just don’t like the 24” scale on the Mustang . The neck pickup on a Strat is beautiful already ,add in the other positions you have great versatility.

If you already have 25.5" scale guitars, you may like the 24" scale Mustang for something *different* — mine feels different than any of my other guitars. And, I love it!
I agree with fenderchamp here...

 

The new MIM strats are supposed to be great. They changed from the ceramic pickups to alnico ones that reportedly have that vintage strat tone.

P90s are cool, but the Mustang looks funky to me. I'd get an SG with P90s instead.

 

I've not bonded with the Mustang in the past. Just seems wimpy for some reason.

 

I don’t know if the Strat would be better, but the Mustang would certainly be worse.

 

The Orange Strat!

 

I'm torn because Capri Orange is obviously the superior color, but I would personally rather play a Mustang because of the shorter scale. Not having a tremolo is also a bonus to me because it's one less thing that can go wrong.

 

A Player Strat will be a well-built, decent guitar that you can hold onto forever if you want. For me the big unknown are the Fender P90s in the Mustang. I've never heard how they sound. I mean I love P90s, but the ones I had were in Gibson and Gibson-type guitars.

 

A Strat and a Tele are basic. Others are just gravy.
IMHO. YMMV. OMGWTFBBQ, etc.

 

I don't care for either of those guitars because of the necks. The Pao Ferro one looks strange and the maple one is too white. I think the really plain light colored maple necks look cheap. I'd buy one of these:

If you don't have a Strat then... those are timeless. Now if you don't have a Tele' I would go in that direction.

 

Creamsicle Stratocaster. Yummy. Orange and white. I have two Stratocasters and love both of them. I think Stratocaster is quite possibly the most versatile guitar there is. And one thing you get with a Strat is a 10 minute loaded pickguard change. Just one man’s opinion.
