Warning: Please do not listen to the current news while trying to remove a very tight neck from the neck pocket. What to do now besides using a few new cuss words in different languages. neck pocket.jpg

An unfortunate common occurance. Fingernail polish is a common go to for a solid colo chip fix. Put on thin layers and. Build them up. Wet sand flush and hand buff.

Though a chipped finish is frustrating, it’s not a huge problem.
I too have done this fix with satisfactory results.
My avatar guitar originally had a Kelly green finish I touched up.

I just notice you said "clear" orange. So it is a translucent finish rather than a solid color? A photo of the whole guitar is often helpful.

On translucent/see thru finishes often go a different direction. A translucent finish comes from using dye mixed into clear rather than a solid tint. When I fix translucent chips I mix my own dye into clear lacquer or clear of choice and drop fill. If I want to fill a bigger chip I will nail down the mix using alinine dye powder in clear lacquer to get it as it needs to be. Them I will mix that powder mix into thick CA glue to fill the chip.

That is part of the deal with a tight fit between the neck and pocket :).

That crack at the bottom of the pocket looks like it's just a finish crack - not structural.

I had one just like that appear on my blonde HH Tele when I knocked it off the bench.

If you have a lacquer finish, you are able to make it disappear using a couple drops of retardant thinner.

I pulled the neck and then propped up the guitar so the cracked area was sitting in the "up" position, so when I put a drop or two of the retardant thinner on it stayed right there in the crack.

The thinner seeped right into the crack and dissolved into the lacquer and bonded the crack back together.

I did the repair about 6 months ago, and it still looks good :).

I used Sherwin Williams K27 retardant thinner, but I'm pretty sure a drop or two of blush eraser would work just as well.

I'll bet regular thinner would do the job, too ;).

I recently fixed some pretty bad rash on a G&L that was dropped off a stage onto a gravel drive (don't ask). Poly finish, GluBoost worked fine. Nice thing about GluBoost (if you read the link I gave you) is that you can get all kinds of pigments and dyes to match colors.

I will check on GluBoost. Can I sand the side of the neck to remove some of the finish so that it won't be so tight??
