I think you might mean scraps. :D

As much as I like Timothy Taylor's and products of our local breweries, like Black Sheep on occassions, I've been drinking Guinness for 40 years.

    HP or Daddies? :p

When we were kids we used to get a tin loaf, cut it in half, scoop out the middle, butter it, fill it with chips and sprinkle liberally with the local delicacy, Henderson's Relish.

At home, supermarket own brand or HP.

Hendersons splashed on a steak'n'kidney pudding is a form of stodge ambrosia.
As for bits or scraps, either will get you the desired vittles. Asking for crozzles will get a blank stare and a slack jawed 'you what?'.
Best use the correct local vernacular; less confusion that way.

Ah, down the road in Sheffield we'd think you were a bit daft if you asked for crozzles...

We'd had enough of potato bread and pastry by 1954, when rationing finally ended.

Different parts of Sheffield have different names for things, by the time you get to Huddersfield things get wierd, Holmfirth can be like another planet...

    Planet of the six-fingered overbites?

Cracking good venue in the Picturedrome though. Seen many bands there.

Good chippy nearby too. You can get a decent chip butty to consume while waiting for the damp bus ( full of drunks... ) after a show.

My father in law and his family came from Holmfirth, they'd been there since the last ice age I think. Then he married a girl from over the forbidden hills in Colne (Lancashire!!!!!) and they had a little girl, with whom I later spent lots of time in Holmfirth... The rest is history (and the lawyers could afford some spanking new guitars)...

    AKA scraps or bits.

    Chips_and_scraps_01Jun2011.JPG

The wine is abit overkill though. Surely from a chippy, it's be a can of fizz or a Panda. From a van, it'd be builders.

That's all it is, bits that drop off the battered fish in the fryer.
