    "Discuss."

That's a joke 'cuz any time anyone says "Discuss." that's my cue to move on.

    O.k., I'll go first.

Cheap stuff doesn't suck as bad as some people say it does.

Expensive stuff sucks the cash right outta my wallet.

I wish they'd stock a wider selection of pedals at the local Dollar Store .

I can't afford most of the expensive stuff, so it's usually a moot point. A lot of the time, too, the "expensive" is rooted in the name stamped on it, rather than the product itself. I hate paying for that. But don't blow smoke up my behind and tell me that a low dollar item is "exactly the same" as the spendy one. It's not often true. Just tell me what's good (and not) about the inexpensive item, and I'll decide if it fits my needs.

P.S.: I buy inexpensive all the time. I try to avoid cheap at all costs.

It sucks I can't afford high end gear unless it's broken or I built it myself.

-I- buy inexpensive whenever I can. Buying cheap stuff over and over gets expensive.

I don't think expensive stuff sucks ... but I generally don't need or appreciate a lot of the fancy things that make a really expensive thing cost more than a less-expensive-no-frills-well-built item. And there are a lot of time consuming hand work costs that I enjoy doing myself. I enjoy doing fret work, cutting bone nut etc. and I enjoy reshaping a neck profile to what suits me so as long as the neck has enough meat to it --- I prefer no finish on the back of the neck anyway. I find that instruments in the $5-800 range give me everything I need after setting up the frets and nut the way I like. Fancy paint and inlays etc. don't do anything for me.

It really depends on a lot of factors, far too many for me to list at this time as I am about to take a nap.

    Determining QPR sometimes takes time.

One thing I will pay good money for is skill. Expert guitar and amp techs shouldn't be "cheap": we need them to survive and develop!

And I'll pay more if it means my local music ecosystem won't die.

There is something I call, "stupid expensive". Those are the things stoopid people spend way too much for.:D

    "Collectors" for example.

So, your 'ask' is to have a discussion on this topic?

I've heard 'ask' used as a noun way too many times over the past 3 days of start of the year staff meetings.

I try not to buy cheap stuff nowadays or even alternatives to the one i want. But I wouldnt spend A lot on something thats not important.

ive bought cheap and in the end i spent more on buying cheap and buying the one I want again.

poor man always pays twice is true.

I never pay retail if I can avoid it. And after reading the Millionaire Next Door I am convinced that you can buy used items that are good-as-new and still put away the savings. It does take discipline though and living within your means.

I have played $2,000 guitars that aren't worth $200 and cheap guitars that play better than the $2,000 ones. It’s all subjective.

Four things where the expensive version is almost always superior:

Boots, trash bags, whiskey, and power tools.
