Beater pedal to me means something that can bang around and be abused but keep working. No one beats Boss when it comes to durability, in my opinion. Therefore, look at SD1, OD3, BD2, DS1 and pick whichever matches your amp best. Take your amp to a Boss dealer and try them all. DS1 or SD1 will be under $50 out the door. If your heart is set on one of the others, buy used. If it's a GC they can even get you a used one and might even ship it to your house. Done.

The Roland BC-30 is not the typical clean ss amp. It already has a bit of grungy mid-hump of its own. I prefer using a tele with a Visual Sound Open Road pedal into my BC30. Other equivalents to this pedal would be the RAT, OCD, or Screamin' Blues.

For a bit more tonal and soloing options, try chaining a TS clone in front of the OCD into this amp. My actual chain is:

    Tele > EP Booster > VS Route 808 > VS Open Road > BC-30

... any pedal on gives great chunky rhythm tones; any combination of two pedals on is a great soloing tone. To my ears...ymmv
