Someone ask it to write lyrics about what it means to be human. Mebbe as a blues
I woke up this morning, feeling like a man But sometimes I wonder, do I really understand What it means to be human, in this crazy world we're in Do we ever stop to think, about where we're going, where we've been

Chorus: Being human ain't easy, it's a tough road to walk We laugh, we love, we cry, we talk But we keep moving forward, and we keep holding on Cause being human means we're never really alone

Verse 2: We're born into this world, with so much to learn And every day we struggle, just to make the bridges burn We face so many challenges, and we're always on the run But the human spirit never fades, we keep pushing till we've won

Chorus: Being human ain't easy, it's a tough road to walk We laugh, we love, we cry, we talk But we keep moving forward, and we keep holding on Cause being human means we're never really alone

Verse 3: We strive for something greater, than what we have today We reach for the stars, and dream of a better way But sometimes we stumble, and sometimes we fall But we get back up again, cause we're human after all

Chorus: Being human ain't easy, it's a tough road to walk We laugh, we love, we cry, we talk But we keep moving forward, and we keep holding on Cause being human means we're never really alone

Outro: So let's embrace our humanity, with all its flaws and all Cause being human is a precious gift, and we're lucky to stand tall

Can you suggest some modificatiions to the Fender 5e3 amplifier to give it more headroom?

ChatGPT
Yes, there are a few modifications you can make to a Fender 5e3 amplifier to increase its headroom:
  1. Swap the preamp tubes: The 5e3 uses two 12AX7 tubes in the preamp stage, which have a high gain factor. Swapping these out for lower-gain tubes like 12AY7 or 12AT7 can reduce the amount of preamp gain and increase headroom.
  2. Change the cathode resistor: The cathode resistor in the first preamp stage determines the amount of gain that stage produces. Increasing the value of this resistor will reduce the gain and increase headroom.
  3. Increase the plate voltage: The 5e3's power tubes run at around 360 volts, but increasing this voltage to around 400-450 volts can increase headroom. This modification requires careful attention to safety and should only be performed by an experienced technician.
  4. Reduce the negative feedback: The 5e3 uses negative feedback to reduce distortion, but reducing the amount of negative feedback can increase headroom. This modification can be done by removing or reducing the value of the feedback resistor.
Keep in mind that modifying an amplifier can be dangerous and may void the warranty. It's important to have a qualified technician perform these modifications and ensure that the amp is safe and functioning properly afterwards.

Me
You are wrong. The 5e3 uses a 12AY7 as the first tube the preamp.

ChatGPT
I apologize for the mistake in my previous response. You are correct that the Fender 5e3 amplifier uses a 12AY7 as the first tube in the preamp section, not a 12AX7.
In this case, some modifications that can increase headroom in the Fender 5e3 amplifier include:
  1. Increasing the value of the cathode resistor in the first preamp stage: A larger resistor value will reduce the gain of the preamp stage, which can increase headroom.
  2. Changing the coupling capacitor: The coupling capacitor in the preamp section can be changed to a larger value, which can increase the amount of low frequencies passing through and provide a clearer and more transparent sound.
  3. Replacing the first preamp tube with a lower-gain 12AY7 or 12AT7 tube: This can reduce the overall preamp gain and increase headroom.
  4. Reducing the negative feedback loop: The negative feedback loop can be reduced by decreasing the value of the feedback resistor, which can increase headroom and provide a more open and dynamic sound.
Again, I apologize for the confusion in my previous response, and I hope this answer provides more accurate information for you.

I wonder if it's still confused about tube complement here after you corrected it? Or if it literally means to select another 12AY7, one having lower gain than the one currently installed at V1.

Could read that either way. 🤷‍♂️

As mentioned above, the chat bot apparently isn’t smart enough to at the very least mention the dangers of high voltage circuits. That’s because the chat bot has never built an amp and never will. It will take someone getting injured or killed due to the pseudo-knowledge and plagiarized responses dispensed by these apps before someone finally reigns them in…
The bot was not asked about the dangers of constructing tube amplifiers, it was asked to design one with specific parameters. It did so. How well it did so is a legitimate topic, but damning the software because you did not ask the correct question is another thing entirely. I am a software developer, if I had $5 for every time a customer has pointed out that new software won't do what they want, when "what they want" was not in the spec, I could buy that new guitar I want.

Am I way off, or did Chat GPT mis-categorize the 5Y3GT as a diode rather than as a vacuum tube? The function would be similar: AC to intermittent DC (this is a real question, is this kind of tube sometimes called a diode?). Also, are we missing a pre-amp tube (or, heaven forbid, pre-amp transistor)?

Clearly ChatBot forgot to specify whether volume pot graphics should go from 0 to 11...

Thanks for this post. I was wondering what all the chatbot fuss was about.

It deleted the tube swap suggestion after I corrected it. And from what I understand about AI, it doesn't get confused, and it doesn't learn. I think.
Maybe I will ask again and see if it makes the same error.

I asked again. Some new solutions, and sort of got around the 12AX7 issue:

Me
Can you suggest some modifications to the Fender 5e3 amplifier to give it more headroom?

ChatGPT

The Fender 5E3 amplifier is a classic design known for its warm, rich tone and touch-sensitive response. However, if you want more headroom, there are some modifications you can make to the circuit. Here are some suggestions:
  1. Increase the Plate Voltage: One of the simplest ways to increase headroom is to increase the plate voltage of the power tubes. You can achieve this by increasing the value of the power supply filter capacitors, or by using a higher voltage transformer. However, be careful not to exceed the maximum voltage ratings of the tubes or other components in the circuit.
  2. Change the Power Tube Bias: Adjusting the bias of the power tubes can also increase headroom. The bias voltage sets the operating point of the tubes and affects their distortion characteristics. A cooler bias will produce less distortion and more headroom, but too cool a bias can lead to premature tube failure.
  3. Replace the Preamp Tubes: Swapping out the 12AX7 preamp tubes for lower-gain 12AY7 or 12AT7 tubes can reduce the overall gain of the amp, increasing headroom. However, be aware that this will also change the tone of the amp.
  4. Increase the Negative Feedback: Adding more negative feedback to the circuit can reduce the gain and increase headroom. This can be achieved by changing the values of the feedback resistor and capacitor, or by adding an additional resistor in the feedback loop.
  5. Add a Master Volume Control: Installing a master volume control can allow you to reduce the overall volume of the amp while maintaining the same level of distortion. This can effectively increase headroom, as you can push the amp harder without it becoming too loud.
It's important to note that any modifications to an amplifier can have unintended consequences, and may require adjustments to other parts of the circuit. It's also important to work with a qualified technician who understands the circuit and can make the modifications safely and effectively.

Has anyone considered that ChatGPT is “reading” this thread and has already “learned” something about what it is getting wrong? I was surprised to see more output that mentioned safety—after several people mentioned it didn’t talk enough about safety. The feedback loop we are creating really is hard to comprehend.

A bit later I asked it to help me write a song:

Me
Can you write a chord progression, lyrics and melody that would make a hit indy rock song? Something like Wilco meets Elliott Smith? Sad, but not completely hopeless. Like No depression, but with a hint of early Beatles.

ChatGPT

Sure, here's a potential chord progression, lyrics, and melody for an indie rock song that combines elements of Wilco, Elliott Smith, and early Beatles:

Chord progression: G - D - Em - C
Verse 1:
G D Em C
Walking down these empty streets again
G D Em C
Can't shake this feeling that I'm alone
G D Em C
Every face I see just fades away
G D Em C
Guess it's just another lonely day

Chorus:
G D Em C
But I still believe in something more
G D Em C
And I won't give up until I find what I'm looking for
G D Em C
Even if it takes me all my life
G D Em C
I won't let go of this hope inside

Verse 2:
G D Em C
Lost in thought, I wander through the night
G D Em C
Trying to find my way back to the light
G D Em C
But every turn just leads me back to you
G D Em C
And I don't know what else I can do
Chorus:

Bridge:
Em D C G
Maybe I'm just chasing ghosts
Em D C G
But I can't help but feel this way
Em D C G
And even though it hurts the most
Em D C G
I'll keep on searching day by day
Chorus:
G D Em C

Outro: G D Em C Walking down these empty streets again G D Em C Can't shake this feeling that I'm alone G D Em C But I still believe in something more G D Em C And I won't give up until I find what I'm looking for

Me
That's not terrible, but I don't get a real sense of place from that. And the lyrics are predictable, and not all Beatles-like. Can you improve the lyrics as I suggested, and write a melody for one verse and one chorus in guitar TAB?

ChatGPT
Sure, I'll take another shot at it. Here's a revised version of the lyrics and a melody for one verse and one chorus in guitar TAB.

Chord progression:
A - E - F#m - D

Verse 1:
A E F#m D
In this old town, where the buildings rise so high
A E F#m D
And the streets are lined with neon signs
A E F#m D
I walk alone, in the shadows of the night
A E F#m D

Chorus:
A E F#m D
But I keep on falling, falling down
A E F#m D
And I can't seem to find my way around
A E F#m D
But I won't give up, I won't give in
A E F#m D
I'll keep on searching, 'til the bitter end

Melody for verse: e|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------| B|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2| G|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--| D|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----| A|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------| E|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------|
Melody for chorus: e|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------| B|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2|-----2-----2-----2| G|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--|---2-----2-----2--| D|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----|-2-----2-----2----| A|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------| E|------------------|------------------|------------------|------------------|
Note: The TAB shows the chord shapes played on the guitar, rather than the specific notes played in the melody.

Me
The lyrics are better, thanks. I would like if some of the rhymes worked with two words rhyming with one. Something like cooperate and paper plate.

Sure, here's a revised version of the lyrics with some internal rhymes like the ones you mentioned.
Verse 1:
A E F#m D
In this old town, where the buildings scrape the sky
A E F#m D
And the neon lights are burning bright
A E F#m D
I walk alone, with my head hung low
A E F#m D
Trying to find a place to call my own

Chorus:
A E F#m D
But I keep on falling, crashing down
A E F#m D
Like a paper plate that hits the ground
A E F#m D
I'll try to rise up, to cooperate
A E F#m D
With the forces that control my fate

I hope this version works better for you!

Me
Also, the melody is bad. Too repetitive. And we need a bridge melody.

ChatGPT

I apologize for the previous melody, I'll work on a revised version with a bridge included. Here's my attempt:

Chord progression:
A - E - F#m - D

Verse 1:
A E F#m D
In this old town, where the buildings scrape the sky
A E F#m D
And the neon lights are burning bright
A E F#m D
I walk alone, with my head hung low
A E F#m D
Trying to find a place to call my own

Chorus:
A E F#m D
But I keep on falling, crashing down
A E F#m D
Like a paper plate that hits the ground
A E F#m D
I'll try to rise up, to cooperate
A E F#m D
With the forces that control my fate

Bridge:
Bm F#m D A
I see the world, through a different lens
Bm F#m D A
But I'm not sure, if it's worth the sense
Bm F#m D A
Can't help but feel, like I'm just a pawn
Bm F#m D A
In a game that's already been won

Chorus:
A E F#m D
But I keep on falling, crashing down
A E F#m D Like a paper plate that hits the ground
A E F#m D I'll try to rise up, to cooperate
A E F#m D With the forces that control my fate

I hope this version is better suited to your tastes. Let me know if you have any other feedback or requests.

Me
Well, paper plates don't really crash down. And they don't fall so much as flutter. the analogy is poor. I would also like the improved melody in TAB for verse chorus and bridge. Try for more variety, potentially in the last line of each. And why did you use the phrase paper plate?

ChatGPT

I apologize for the poor analogy with the paper plate, I understand that it doesn't quite fit. I used it because of the internal rhyme with "cooperate" that you mentioned earlier. I'll revise the lyrics to come up with a better analogy.

Better than many songs on the radio etc.. Don't give up ChatGPT. You will get better with time and one day you will have a break and be able to win a Grammy. Maybe one day you will be able to even write something better than WAP by Cardi B )and 6 other writers).

Who is TDPRI John?

“I'm sorry, but as an AI language model, I do not have information about all individuals on the internet. However, "tdpri john" could potentially refer to a user on the TDPRI (Telecaster Discussion Page Reissue) forum, which is a popular online community for fans of Telecaster guitars. If you can provide more context or information about who or what specifically you are referring to, I might be able to provide a more accurate answer.”

And here's the thing: It's not "confused" - it can't be confused. And it doesn't "literally mean" anything at all. It's just doing what it's told to do, like any program. Supplying the words which its training informs it are most likely to result in an answer that pleases you, within its preset limitations against racist or otherwise socially unacceptable answers. You can just push a "reroll" button and it will make you a completely new, though usually similar, answer.
