Charlie Watts had an emergency "procedure" and will be sitting out the Rolling Stones fall U.S. tour. It will be their first time without him on stage in 58 years. Steve Jordan, Keith Richards' Xpensive Winos bandmate, co-writer and co-producer, will be playing in his stead.

Things like this are inevitable, but it really makes me sad. Ronnie just recovered from cancer yet again and now this. It can't go on much longer. I saw them in 2019. It was the best of the four Stones shows I've attended over the last 32 years, and I just bought tickets to see them in October.

I understand that they didn't want yet another postponement in the wake of the pandemic-scuttled 2020 tour and the delays on the 2019 tour because of Mick's heart valve replacement, but the wording worries me. The spokesman's statement says "I gather his doctors this week concluded..." That's weak wording that leaves room for the possibility that the doctor said nothing of the sort.

That's too bad for CW. I hope he recovers fine and I bet the Stones will still rock the house. I have tickets for the SOFI concert also.

Steve Jordan is the absolute best possible drummer to fill in for Charlie.

With nothing but respect to Charlie, who is still excellent, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jordan lights a fire under the band and these shows are serious business.

Keith has always maintained that there are no "Rolling Stones" without Charlie.

    Hmmmm...

Noooooo. I've still never seen the Stones. I really want to if I still can, hopefully with Charlie.

I have been using Steve Jordan's signature drum sticks for years. Jordan will fit in very well.

Charlie's personality and impeccable style will be sorely missed. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

"Doctor, will Charlie be able to talk after the surgery?"
    "Of course he will."
    "That's funny, he never has."

In all seriousness, sending prayers to Charlie for a complete recovery. He and Wyman (and Keef and Stu, of course) are/were the heart and soul of that band.

I have a feeling it's the final tour with Mr. Watts. Charlie hates being out on the road, he's 80 & their tour schedule is ridiculously long. He's going to play a couple shows at the end of the tour & hang it up.

Like Keith has said, no Charlie no Stones. I love Steve Jordan & Keith together, but he's too tight compared to Charlie and with Bill long gone 2/3 of the band's foundation is gone.
To me Steve Jordan replacing Watts is like Kenny Jones replacing Moon. You know the guitarist & drummer work well together from solo work...but Face Dances sounds like a very good solo Pete album that Roger Daltery sings on.
I understand why Jordan is filling in, but if this is the future lineup? Nope. Their shows are too expensive as it is now, and I'm a die hard Stones fan.

I missed the Jones Stones in 1966 by a few weeks when my family moved to Clearwater, FL.

Finally went in DC before retiring and leaving there. Bucket list thing.

    Did enjoy.

    Speedy recovery, Charlie.

    Bummer. Hope he's well soon.

Huge Stones fan. I was leaning toward catching them in one more football stadium, for could be the last time, I figured. Without Charlie, probably not. I'll preemptively agree that in practice, it hardly matters from the back row. Theory and concept do feel significant at Checkout Now time.

    I saw them in '72.
    I was 16.
    There were cross dressers screaming,"Mick!"
    Repeatedly.
Bill Graham check their tickets and had them escorted out.

We are getting close to that point to where any one of the remaining three quits playing for any reason, the Stones are done in my opinion. They are already pretty close to being a tribute band as is. At some point they will have to quit while they are ahead. How much money do you need to make anyway.
