Yes, but murder in itself is reactionary. Real or perceived threat, manson killings were planned orders of manipulation. A quasi religious order.

Not a fan at all of the Death Penalty, but the State has paid to incarcerate this guy, for basically half a Century. And I doubt this sort of individual can be watched over for the same number of coins we'd use to watch a guy who wrote was a DWI or wrote scripts pretending to be a pharmacist. This is one of those cases where, speaking strictly in terms of economics, this guy sure poured away a lot of the citizen's money being kept alive.

Let's order Marilyn Manson to pay all these bills, shall we?

In California it's deeply more complicated than at first glance, there are horrendous air-conditioning cost, off site sewer disposal, a hoard of maintenance personnel, office people, exercise equipment, cooks, clean up people and assorted others I don't even know about. Prisons are big business in California, they have even become private enterprise in some cases. FOLLOW THE MONEY, to get to where they keep the reason for keeping lifetime prisoners, instead of...

Not defending the guy, but that is one fact that many people are surprised to hear.

I only know it because I read Helter Skelter twice!

But most people think of him as a mass murderer, when he really wasn’t.

Not saying he was a good dude...

As far as I know, his involvement is suspected there, but he has not been convicted of that one either.

Yeah because the state isn't going to waste money prosecuting someone who is/was serving nine life sentences.

Are you suggesting it's the news media's fault? They don't have to make it sensational. It's pretty damn sensational when a gunman can shoot down over 500 victims, leaving 60 of them dead. It's pretty sensational when 23 children are shot down, etc. It's the free press duty to report. It helps to move public opinion although it doesn't seem to matter much in the examples I provided.
I'm old enough to remember Richard Speck and Charles Whitman and they both got plenty of national news coverage. Of course they weren't cult leaders. Mansion's story was sensational and captivating to the public.

It's not sex itself but it's a false suggestion of love or caring. The sex may come later and is gratuitous and also controlling. As for a cult, I couldn't agree more about "revolution, reformation and solution". As I posted earlier cultism is very prominent today with those exact messages.

It's the real life monsters who hide in plain sight that scares the bejeezus out of me.

90 posts and no lock. Interesting. Guy was evil, stayed resolutely evil his entire life and died. Good riddance.

Thanks for clearing that up, things can get tricky. For one second there I thought your idea that the primary reason against the death penalty is profit might have been my own.

Yes. And? [I'm just not sure exactly what you're going or, it's composed like an argument but doesn't seem to actually contradict any of my statements. However, I am curious.]

He was on the scene in LA. He was at parties with Terry Melcher who was a producer and Doris Day‘s son. In fact he thought Terry Melcher would be at the house that Sharon Tate was at.

And he hung with Dennis Wilson and of the singles or songs that Charles Manson cut, I think Melcher and/or Dennis Wilson had something to do with them ?

File this whole thread under the recurring trope of “wait a minute that’s odd - a thread on that subject shouldn’t be that many pages long. A couple people must be really really really trying to make a point”

I wouldn't say that, at some point you are responsible for your actions. However, I wouldn't wish his childhood upon anyone.
