I bought a pair of amp style knobs to put on my tele. I started to install them and realized that the volume knob skirt hits the screw head that is holding the switch to the control plate. I could keep the knob raised over the screwhead, but that aesthetic drives me nuts.

Is it possible to replace that screw with something with a flat head or trim the skirt of the knob a little bit? There's probably a simple solution, but between public school and being annoyed, I haven't come up with it yet :)

What's my next move?

I'm with you, but I just found this picture online. I guess that's how Fender does it.

A pan head screw might allow the knob to sit slightly lower. I wouldn't want a flat head screw's sharp edge sticking up right there.

Some control plates are thicker and have countersunk holes for the switch's screws. Maybe one of those and a flat head screw would do the trick.

Thanks for the picture. That’s the exact issue. I’ve been looking online at Marc Rutters control plates. It looks like he has one that moves the volume knob over 1/4th of an inch, which would be enough.

I’ve never swapped out control plates, but it seems like it wouldn’t be a big deal.

I have one of those, with the angled switch slot. Easy to install.

Fender has little plastic collars they use on a lot of their amps to space the knobs and stabilize them Might allow you to get the spacing you need. I don't know what pots/shafts you have and whether they will fit. I believe they are set up for 6mm but I don't think the tolerances are that tight and it's a very small difference.

Here's an example: https://www.adorama.com/fe0033206049.html
