When I got back into music last year I used a chair in my music room. I've notice a lot of YouTube players are using a stool. I started using a stool today and initial impressions are; 1) my posture is more upright, in the chair I found myself slouching unless I was deliberate. 2) I'm less in the direct beam of my 1x12 amp which is on the floor, and I think I like it.

    So what is your preference?

I have both. My stool folds up and my chair has arms that move out of the way.

    Stool, or arm-less chair.

I have a stool with a low back. Works great for me. Wish I could find another. Took some time to find that one. (goodwill)
A chair don't work for me.

Can't vote due to lack of choices.

    Couch is my answer, though.

I'm using a chair with no arms, but only because stools are too dang expensive.

    Low-back stool. A Costco special.
It even has a gas cylinder shock for soft landings!

This is kinda what I have. A fairly tall, adjustable height stool that rotates with a back. Perfect for playing guitar, bass or recording.

I use a Tama Ergorider drum stool. It's super comfy, it swivels, it's totally adjustable up and down and the back rest is adjustable too.

It's built like a tank, super stable on its four feet, and still looks new even after 20 years.

Chair. Slouching while playing guitar is my jam.

Could you tell me what type of guitar is that? Is it custom? I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite like it.

When work from home started my wife got me an actual office (gaming) chair, and she made sure it has arms that fold up so I can sit in it to play guitar. Before that, it was my trusty Gibraltar drum throne.

On my swivel chair, one foot on an ottoman, total reacharound to get to the frets...maybe on a strap, maybe not, right leg, left leg, you'd think I would be more consistent at least.

Chair. Much more friendly to my back, no arms though.

I have a rocking chair. I had to saw the arms off of it myself. I like to sit on my patio, rock back and forth, serenade the squirrels and chipmunks, bribing them with roasted peanuts. When I lived in Alabama, I had a porch swing, but I had to keep the bug zapper going constantly to discourage the mosquitoes. Basically, it provided me with a counter-rhythm. Strum-strum-bzzzzzzzt! Brr-zztz! Pow! Strum-strum-strum ...

Those zappers are pretty high gain.

I have a stool, sort of. It's actually my old broken down office chair that's had the arms and back removed. It made a nice rolling stool I can use for when I'm playing and doing work on guitars. I do try to stand when playing as long my busted up hip allows it.

I stand. Always have. I do have a chair that sits in the corner, but I haven't used it since I put it in there.

No chairs in my music room.
When we practice, everybody stands up to the mic.

Practice like you're going to perform, I always say.

I do have some short bar-stools, in case our girl singer asks for it, which is rare.
One time our bass player needed one.
There was some hangover action going on, I suspect.

    :(
