There is a new Celtic Woman showing on PBS right now and will be repeated later tonight and tomorrow.

These women sing so clear and intune its refreshing to see there is still good talent out there.

That's akin to the opera singers. They perfect their talent for years and have ultimate control over their singing voices...able to sing most people under the table.

    But they get no respect...

    They're quite attractive, too!

I don't really dig those shows, though, as the production values are so over the top that it sucks all the soul out of the music...

This one featured some new singers and they even danced around a little.

I agree about the production they are so good they dont need the lights and show.

300 women on that stage, and not one red head.

    'Celtic Woman' by shiny white......

I've watched and listened to them a number of times (on TV*) ---attractive, talented, highly trained/proficient, everything runs like clockwork--- it's quite a well-packaged and slick show.

    * I'm a bit curious as to what the "live" performance is actually like, but I haven't enough curiousity to go see them "live."

A little on the plain-vanilla side, but exquisitely done in every respect. Now if they'd just rock a little harder......

I've never really seen them other then quick clips. Why is it Celtic Woman when it's four or five of them and not Celtic Women? Like Celtic Thunder they seem like an Irish producer put them together and thought, "Those Yanks will eat this stuff up..." Yeah, they are no doubt talented, but it's a bit too slick for me.

Too slick, too vanilla, over-produced. They look like they spend 10 hours getting makeup and hair done. Mannequins come to mind.

can someone please explain to me why it's celtic woman and not celtic women?

i dunno...talented and all, but the production is so big and dramatic it gives me the giggles. plus, really, if i wanted to hear someone sing in an "operatic style," i'd listen to, y'know, opera.

y'know what though, off topic, but at my house, it's time to blast pavarotti singing "nessun dorma."

I watched the special. They remind me of modern Broadway singers. Everything is overdone and too perfect. I hope they pay their musicians well.

I want to meet the Celtic Woman on their CD cover.

I wasn't going to say it, but there where was one song where the fiddler was dancing around and all I could think was, "There's no way she could be doing that and playing that tune." And I've never heard headset mics sound so perfect.

yeah, i wondered about the violin player too... i think that show has been around for a few years. they use it as a pledging tool.

    ill really destroy something here...

theres another thread going on right now regarding levon helm. in his book "this wheels on fire" about the history of the BAND, levon says that almost all of the music of the LAST WALTZ was overdubbed. the only thing he was sure about that wasnt was his drumming and singing , because he refused to do any overdubbing. he said that the musical side of the film was not given enough priority and most of the performances were very poor.

overdubbing (millie vanillie style) is VERY POPULAR. all voices in major movies are overdubbed as its easier to control the volume and sound fluctuations.

Overdubbed in post-production? I hope not.......Heart's reputation took a hit when that kind of allegation was made about a couple of their shows in Phoenix awhile back, and we all remember Ashlee Simpson on SNL.

I'm guessing they're using 'woman' in the same way it's used in the Helen Reddy song "I Am Woman". In an inclusive sense I would say. Like the civilization of 'man'. We know that doesn't refer to just one man. My best guess.
